Öz Eser kebap — Restaurant in Arnavutköy

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves to be shared in detail so others can avoid the same disappointment. The first issue came with the water: it was presented in a way that looked like a complimentary gesture, almost as part of the table setting, but in reality I was charged €2.50 for it. This kind of trick is not only misleading but also completely unworthy of the Turkish hospitality that is usually known for honesty, warmth, and generosity.

The food itself left me with mixed feelings. The meatballs were tasty, but the portion size was far too small for what one would expect of a proper dish. To make matters worse, additional side salads were brought to the table without any clear explanation. Instead of feeling welcomed, this created the uncomfortable impression that even these might be added to the bill later – leaving me cautious and unable to enjoy my meal freely. Dining should never feel like a guessing game of what will or will not be charged.

A good restaurant should win its guests over with transparent service, fair portions, and a sense of genuine hospitality – not through tricks designed to make people second-guess whether they can simply enjoy their food. Unfortunately, the combination of hidden charges and manipulative presentation left a bitter impression that overshadowed everything else. This family run place was so delicious we ate here twice. The lentil soup has a bit of spice, comes with rustic bread and is incredible. Any doner (wrap) is great. We split and particularly enjoyed the 5 meatball plate which included two large grilled peppers, two grilled tomatos and buttered rice.
