My family visited Da Conch Shack for their famous Wednesday night festivities. The restaurant itself sits right on the seashell filled beach. Great vibe. If you don’t want to step on the sand, there is a small section of tables that are on the deck as well as 2 bars.
Parking lot is small so if you’re driving, you’ll need to be very early or park on the street. Also an overflow lot not far.
The party kicks off promptly at 8pm with the procession of a Junkanoo band. They make their way from the back of the restaurant, up the beach until they reach the front on the main dance floor. There is a fire performer, a DJ and vendors are also selling crafts in the back. There may have been more entertainment after we left (10-1030pm).
SERVICE: Very very fast and friendly.
FOOD: “Conch 2 ways” consists of cracked (fried) conch and conch fritters. Good, but wasn’t the best conch that I’ve had while on the island. Fried shrimp was good and the best was the fish tacos.
I always like to start my reviews on a positive note. Now let’s get to the negative and some useful tips. This Wednesday night event has apparently been a staple on the island for some years. That being said, I was extremely disappointed in the chaotic way that they run this place and I expected better. My experience here did not start off well. In short, I had a 7:30pm reservation. I arrived at 7:27pm. I was seated at 8:22pm.
Upon arrival, the line was well into the parking lot and even though we had a reservation, we were told that we still had to wait in line. You get to the front of the line and THEN we’re advised that we needed to “check-in”. After checking in, we waited in another line until being seated. Completely crazy.
TIP 1 - Arrive 15-30 minutes ahead of your reservation time. Maybe you will get seated in a timely manner.
TIP 2 - If you arrive and there is a line, go the reception desk and check in immediately.
TIP 3 - Try to get seated close to the dance floor or the center of the restaurant. We missed a lot because we were the last table in the back.
TIP 4 - As stated, the party starts at 8. Maybe you can get a 7pm reservation and just hang out until showtime. Keep in mind though that food comes out really quick.
The restaurant was suitable for all ages. We saw babies, toddlers, teens, couples and singles. It was a great time for everyone. I’d be willing to come again on a different night or...
Read moreWe just spent our week in Provo. We had booked reservations here at Da Conch Shack for the famous Wednesday night show at 7:30. Upon checking in early at 7:00 which was recommended to make sure we wouldn't miss the show, we were immediately rushed to be seated and told us we needed to order right away as we only had the table for 1 hour before we would have to give it up. I politely stated that the reservation was made for 7:30 which was communicated with the hostess and she had told us we were fine to sit down and enjoy drinks until our reservation started. Long story short we ended up having to stand up by the bar and wait until 7:30 for our reservation time as the waiting staff and host staff were not on the same page. After being seated we had the most wonderful new waitress and was very kind and attentive. The food took a very long time to come out and the conch was not crispy. When the fireshow started we enjoyed beautiful music and scenery. However, when the main act “fire man” came out. Many people in the restaurant as well as spectators from the beach flocked and circled him while standing up and recording with their phones. There was no crowd control whatsoever. With that being said part way through the show he changed positions to be on the beach which would have been our closest view to him. As he moved, the same crowd followed again standing and circling around videoing, making it impossible to see anything that was going on. There needs to be better crowd control so that the show can be viewed/recorded from seats so that 1. People remain safe, and 2. So everyone has the opportunity to enjoy. There also was a lack of security so sed beach spectators mentioned before were taking any and all empty seats despite not having reservations and were served by waiting staff. Overall I think it has great potential but better restrictions need to...
Read moreThis was the worst dining experience of my life. My group went after new years eve because "that's the place to go on Wednesday" to see the music and everything, so we made a reservation for 7:30pm. When we arrived there was a lineup of 50 people WITH RESERVATIONS out the door all waiting to be seated. It took almost an hour for us to be seated, and then it took almost 2 hours to get our food. The best part is, we got to watch all the tables around us who sat after us get their food first. We asked the server several times if our food was coming, but she was so rude, not once seemed to give a care about us, ignored us, made up excuses, and after almost 2 hours of waiting, they told us that they were out of ribs, so my friend had to order something else. At the two hour mark, the first 2 out of 5 dishes arrived. We asked why the conch salad, a cold dish, hadn't arrived first, and they told us it's because they were out of that too. It took them 2 hours to tell us they were out of two things from our order! My friends without food were so hungry they ordered some finger food to snack on, but they brought us the wrong dish. The food wasn't even good, it's a very basic menu with all the same options as every other place. There's nothing different or special about it, and the prices are absurd for what you get. 6x buffalo wings were $18USD.
When the server brought the bill, she tried to add the finger food, which was the wrong dish, onto the bill by hand, and the auto-gratuity was 18%! We were so offended, but the only good thing about this place was the very professional and sympathetic manager who comp'ed our bill. It's a real shame this restaurant sucks, because across the venue people were dancing at the bar and there was a DJ, and the vibe looked good, so we wanted to join the crowd after we ate, but we couldn't get out of there...
