This pub is featured in The Good Beer Guide with a reference for serving good food. I dropped by with the family and was made very welcome within seconds of entering the pub. Superb choice of local beers and good wine were available. I ordered beef and ale pie which was absolutely incredible. Real chips which were superb. I normally order extra gravy however they bought out a massive jug even before I even asked! The staff were extremely friendly which added to the overall experience. I've made a note of this place as I will definitely return!

Proper real ale pub with a really friendly atmosphere and roaring fire. Just around the corner from the Tram museum and war memorial with amazing views! Landlord made us feel welcome right away and we thoroughly enjoyed our evening, even went on a small hike to Thorpe Cloud on his recommendation and it was brilliant. Will be back!

An incredible Sunday roast, one of the best I've had in a long time - great quality and great portion sizes! Followed by a home made sticky toffee pudding which was excellent! Highly recommend.

Stopped for tea on the way home as the pub was handy and allowed my 2 dogs in which is always a bonus. Food was ok and very plentiful which it needed to be at £9.50 for Scampi and chips. We did have a long wait but it was all home cooked and we were warned upfront by a wall sign that food was cooked to order. The chips were just like those I used to make with my mum 40 years ago. The pub had understated decor and was full of locals who were very welcoming. It was a pleasant experience which we enjoyed but there was no standout reason to make a special trip to eat there again. However, if I was passing and hungry I would call in for a quick...

What a great little pub this is We booked for Sunday lunch after a visit to matlock bath and so glad we did rather than have fish and chips in matlock. The Sunday lunch was chicken and lamb with all the trimmings and big portions aswell The food was cooked and tasted very nice washed down with a couple of pints and glasses of wine. The staff was very friendly and polite aswell as hard working during the busy lunchtime. We will definitely return again in the summer and really do recommend this little traditional gem of a pub. Many thanks Andy...
