The poet and castle is a great country pub. And definitely well worth a visit. It has a excellent selection of real ales and ciders along with a very good choice of wines. They have a very good beer garden with views of open countryside. And a children's play area next to the pub . With access through a gate to the side of the beer garden. Children are safe to play there and parents can also keep an eye on them with out having to worry. It's very close to codnor castle as seen on the TV series time team. Lincoln Green have refurbished this cosy pub in their house style. There is the usual excellent selection of house beers and rotating selection of guest ales. Food is decent pub grub that is freshly prepared. Weirdly we were told that they don't do sandwiches at Saturday lunchtime but were quite capable of rustling up fish and chips and tagliatelle -go figure... Nice clean country style pub opposite a large free carpark. The pub carpark is rather small so I suggest not using it. The food and drinks are well priced and the food is brought to the table quickly, whether inside or out. Staff are very friendly and helpful, and are to be commended for their service. We where in a party of 14 today and there was a wake on at the same time and they catered for all present easily.
