Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Arun

Couldn't make me a flat mocha. Appreciate its not on the official menu with its own till button any more but can't believe none of the 3 baristas could make it, when it is essentially a flat white (that is on their menu) with chocolate powder added. A very "computer says no" approach to customer service and embarrassed me infront of other customers by telling me you don't make the drink any more. Funny that no other Costa I've been to in the last 2 years have refused to make one. My local Costa 10 miles away make it for me, no problem. Costa says if they're new baristas, they might not know how to make it. At my local, even the new baristas will make it for me, which just goes to show it must be almost no different to how a flat white is made. Left feeling embarrassed as called out infront of other waiting customers, and without a coffee, on a cold day. Shame since the staff at my local are much more friendly and accommodating....

Called in today for a cappuccino, lemon tart, flat white and a blueberry muffin. 3 young staff working behind the counter. The girl on drinks was completely flat out never stopped making drinks, she looked exhausted, the other girl was taking orders, very difficult to hear each other as the covid screen is up ( rightly so) but the whooshing of the coffee machine made hearing a nightmare. Anyway....the third girl did come out into the shop to collect cups etc, but we never saw anyone wiping tables down between customer use.. This was an a very busy time as I said but surely the tables and hygiene needed doing. I saw on the door that they were advertising for new staff, help is definitely needed here.,Drinks and food were good, highly priced as always, but let down by not following the cleaning rules. If you drink coffee it is a reasonable place to go, but if like me you like tea, then they aren't trained to make it in an English way, they put the hot water into the cup, then the bag on the side, tea is supposed to be put in before boiling water. Here's the other thing, the water. Wasn't boiling. When I queried this process the employee said it is what they have been trained to do, when I asked for it the other way they were very put out. Nice food and cakes though. Also be aware that this Costa has been built in the car park of b&Q, so don't expect more than a functional experience.
