This is the 2nd time I have visited since its new incarnation from the Jaflong of old. This time I came with my partner and 2 very good friends Just loved it Syider (owner) has really transformed the place to an open , bright venue. Set in a quaint location in Ferring it had many delicate touches like the bespoke "vintage" door , wallpaper with hidden references to her Bangladeshi heritage and light shades based on the fish baskets used by Bangladeshi fisherman. These help create a great eating space. You may read reviews mentioning "it's noisy" .Maybe so. It's a small space but I think the hubbub of conversation with no music adds a feeling of life to the place. Now to the food. It was delicious. Maybe have their own take on your "usuals". For example, my dhansak was smoother than expected but this did not deflect from the great flavours. It was also so hot ( temperature not spice) and felt fresh. Portions also just right This is clearly a labour of love for Syider ..a pharmacist by day. She is the perfect host. Warm , friendly and clearly wants you to enjoy what she has created. Please visit and help make this a success for Syider...
Read moreVisited the recently opened Shapla restaurant last night and we were certainly not disappointed. The restaurant has been expertly designed by Syeda with help from husband/chef Emad and is decorated with some beautiful wallpaper and furniture, including a number of lovely lighting units. The menu is refreshingly varied but also has the regular favourites, all beautifully presented. I had the King Prawn Madras, which was probably one of the best I’ve ever tasted! The staff are warm and friendly and did everything to make our visit special. During our meal, we were welcomed by the lovely Syeda (owner) who explained the ethos behind the restaurant’s design and how this was influenced by her Bangladesh heritage. It was nice to see that she spent time talking with all diners to welcome them to her new venture - a really nice touch. Overall we had a really excellent meal in a pleasant atmosphere and will be returning on a regular basis. Well done Syeda and Emad for designing and opening the much anticipated Indian restaurant which will be a real asset to...
Read moreWhen you’ve found a gem it’s best not to shout about it too much otherwise you could spoil it, as too many will go there and you’ll have difficulty booking a table next time. So I’m taking a risk here in telling you that this little restaurant, tucked away behind a weeping willow tree in south Ferring is a rare gem and worth finding for yourself. If it gets so busy that I can’t get a table then it proves that Shapla has got it right. It gets a little noisy in the small dining area which some may find uncomfortable, so if you don’t like the sound of conversation and would rather watch diners on their phones in silent, then this not the place for you....
