The Henty Arms — Restaurant in Arun

Totally disorganised and unprepared. We were 45 minutes before we were served with our drinks. One of our party ordered a bottle of wine which came without a glass. We had to ask three or four times before we got it. One lady only wanted a glass of tap water and where they were getting that from I have no idea. The food was good and hot to begin with, but unfortunately there wasn't any cutlery and the time that took to reach us meant the food was getting quite cold. There was no form of heating so we couldn't relax and enjoy the lack of ambience. It was our first trip out after the easing of the restrictions. We were so looking forward to it and we wished we hadn't bothered. I won't go into details about the length of time we had to wait to pay the bill. Very good service and the pub is kept clean and well maintained. The menu had a wide range of dishes from light bites to main meals. Unfortunately we found that either the quality of the ingredients or the way in which they were cooked/prepared for service was very poor, the overall impression being a complete lack of flavour. For example: French beans were soggy; new potatoes tasted as if reheated; chips were soggy; the sauce in the chicken pie was tasteless, translucent, luke warm & gelatinous; chicken, cheese & cranberry wrapped in bacon was dried out, the cheese had little flavour and there was no sign of a cranberry! We went to the Henty Arms for the first time today and were very impressed - the brilliant lady behind the bar, Carly, was so friendly and welcoming and full of helpful tips about the local area, and the food was delightful - I had a cheeseburger and then for afters chose the classic lemon sponge and custard, which was sensational - my partner had bread and butter pudding and says it is the best dessert she has ever had.
