The Kingsway — Restaurant in Ashfield

I ordered off the light lunch menu and was there to get a quick, cheap bite to eat in between visits for work and they completely exceeded my expectations!

I was the first one in at 12 in the afternoon so it was quiet but got busier after 12.30 when people were turning up for lunch.

I ordered the tomato soup and the scampi and chips as a meal deal at £7!!!!! For TWO course!! Absolutely bargain if you ask me.

The food came out quicker than expected which I'm always wary about but it was delicious, very hot and well presented. It wasn't long after I finished my starter that my main was ready, the manager did ask if I wanted to wait a bit for my main which I normally would have but I was on a tight schedule with work so told her to bring it right out. Less than 10 minutes later it was on the table and again delicious!!! Chips and Scampi nice and crispy, mushy peas were fabulous and I love tartare sauce and it was lovely.

The manager served me and she had another member of staff on the bar who took my order originally. Both polite and engaged in conversation.

I'm glad I popped in and will definitely be returning with my family.

Wow what can I say. An amazing transformation of this pub. Went to try out today now it's under new management and it certainly will not be my last. The carvery is to absolutely die for and so much improvement has been made. I also learned today that they are also supporting a local business (Barlow's butchers of nuncargate) by having the meat from there. So well done for that. Fresh beautifully cooked vegetables and so much choice. The mustard mash potatoes was my personal favourite.

A massive well done to the chef and for someone that looks fairy young he oozes talent.

I truly recommend that you now try this pub as I'm sure you won't be disappointed. can't wait to try out the burger night and fish and chip night.

Edit, revisited yesterday for lunch with the family, I must say that I had high expectations for this place as I went before, alas I was wrong, the staff weren't as friendly as before it was as if everybody else was more important, and it shows, we waited nearly an hour to receive our tasty meals, the food was over cooked and you could tell the chips were cheap and frozen I know that restaurants used frozen ones but these werent the best texture, also the prices of each plate were ridiculous for the amount of food you received. The staff never did a check back and we had to ask at the bar for our desserts , so if you want a local pub with a local atmosphere with below par meals and in attentive staff then this is the...
