Stopped for ev charging, the thai was fully booked, wasn't sure about the pub in front. But we wandered in. Friday and a bank Holiday busy with dj setting up. We went upstairs as it was a little quieter. Find a table order at the bar. What is possibly our 1st Shephard name pub. Order cheese straws and scotch egg as starters. The cheese straws were really tasty dipped in the tomato chutney. Scotch egg was accompanied with a mustard mayonnaise. The egg on the right side of firm with a little runniness. Delicious. The mains were fish and chips, chicken burger and a side of onion rings. The main bar was getting quote busy but the staff are very friendly. The fish and chips was a surprise the size of the haddock fillet. Ok down south so pea puree not mushy peas. A lovely charred lemon for the acidity. Chips were skin on fries as its not a chippy. A homemade tartar sauce. The chicken fillet was a huge piece with korean gochujang sauce. Impressive burger and big portion of fries. Onion rings proper ones homemade. The quality of the food was really good I even posted the fish and chips on the fish and chips Facebook page it deserved to be on there. I didn't even finish the chips such a good price £17.95. As it was late no one queuing for the chargers we finish soon after. Sauntered over noting it would be a pub we use for meals no hesitation. And...

My group of friends and I used to meet here regularly at the weekends to have a couple of drinks and a catch up, usually on a Sunday, they used to have an amazing lady doing the pub quiz who liked to have a laugh and was generally a nice woman all round. She left due to personal reasons and they replaced her with the most rude, vile and obnoxious guy...hes rude to customers, tell people to shut up and I also believe he has actually had a guy threaten to "take him outside" after an altercation...its because of him I have given 2 stars, he is a waste of oxygen...we've stopped going down to the barn purely for the fact he will be there! As for other staff, 2 guys in particular stand out for me, Simon is an utter legend, a really nice guy! Always up for a laugh and a top bloke. Theres another guy I dodnt catch his name but he has long hair and his till name is post malone lol he's a lovely guy, if you eat there and have him for your table service he will literally go above and beyond, amazing customer service skill from the pair of them! They always seem to be running around like blue bottomed flies and not getting the praise they deserve!

My conclusion. Get rid of the bell end doing the quiz and maybe, just maybe you might start getting...

I'm leaving this review due to the absolutely appalling scene that broke out at this pub last night (Sat 6th Sept 2025) and their way of "handling it".

They had a band playing, but even though they usually have a bouncer during events, there was none this night, an absolutely massive fight broke out in the pub, Two men beating another, one of them then chased the man out the pub and down this street, screams Could then be heard shortly after.

The staffs response to this? NOTHING. they didn't kick out the man that stayed, they didn't call the police, they did NOTHING.

This scene has shaken my mother incredibly terribly, she has now become agoraphobic and refuses to go any where near Singleton let alone the barn itself which we will absolutely never be patroning again.

I will add several of the female staff in general just have a poor attitude whilst serving and I felt uncomfortable nearly every time I ordered anything at the bar at that establishment, but this was the last straw, they fact that they clearly do not care about the safety of their patrons says it...

Singleton Barn is a very accommodating and welcoming place to be, as well as accessible and disability-friendly. There is level access, double doors for wheelchairs and buggies, and a disabled toilet that is sizable enough to fit a wheelchair and assistance dog if needed. Disposable hand towels for autistic children etc in lieu of a hand dryer too. Sight-loss educated staff who pointed out where the card reader, cutlery and food items were without being made to feel othered etc. Kind, polite and helpful. The food quality is phenomenal, with generous portions for a hearty pub meal after a walk on a cold winter’s day. Photo attached to give a general impression of the interior. Calm ambiance, warming decor, family friendly atmosphere.

What can I say about this place. This barn has a nice location and lovey spacious outdoor area for kids and parents alike to seat. We where met by a lovely gentleman at the floor and had the option to choose where to seat. He gave time to decide what to drink but forgot to mention kitchen was closed, think they close at 7. We had used Google maps telling us they was open but that’s neither here nor there. To seat outdoors, you have to be able to tolerate smokers as this more catered to them.
