Recently reopened under new management so to post a review now may be rather premature. We arrived relatively early on a Friday evening in December having made a last minute decision to eat out and finding other places fully booked. The 'stopped for a pint on the way home from work' brigade were still there in force and feeding the pay music system So we weren't able to find a quiet corner to chat. The building is old with lots of beams and the expected inglenook fireplace. All have recently repainted and spruced up but still retain some character. We were surprised to find the separate dining room empty. For the remainder of the evening we were the only ones eating there. The food was inexpensive but very average. The chef took the trouble to come out and chat with us. He is a pleasant chap but still has a lot to learn as do the waiting staff. The management are obviously trying hard to establish the place under their new regime. Read moreWent for a roast meal at about 13:30 on a Sunday (served between 12pm & 5pm) for it to turn up very dry (turkey) even with gravy. Veg was ok, but nothing special. They offered another meat so tried the beef, this was quite tough not enjoyable. Decided to have a desert because I love apple pie, after waiting nearly 15 minutes, I was disappointed to receive 2 small Mr kippling pies covered tined custard. Too sweet, nothing home made.
