Huffers Cafe & Restaurant — Restaurant in Babergh

We stopped off here on a cycle ride for some light refreshment. Busy but understaffed little cafe, we were told someone would come to take our order, but no one did (sat out side) so chased up twice. Eventually we got our order in of two cappuccino and two toasted tea cakes, we were then told there was no tea cakes, so given option of carrot cake or passion fruit cheese cake, decided to chance on both, my carrot cake was ok but had better! My husband's cheese cake was frozen! Solid! The coffee was nice thankfully. When we went to pay it was cash only!! Would have been better we had been informed of this before ordering as we often only carry a credit card when cycling, luckily I had an emergency note shoved in my phone which just covered it, I was going to complain about the cheesecake but the staff where running around like headless chickens and I felt it would have been fairly pointless. I think it could have been better for a few more pairs of hands to help service the customers who had all come for brunch on this lovely sunny Sunday. Shame. Seemed relatively covid safe, mask and face screen wearing, and regular table sanitizing, but the handling of cash from customers by the till personal who then jumped from the till to serving plates of food to tables without sanitizing after handing the cash from various costumers would cause me great concern. I was in Hadleigh yesterday. i went to Huffers Cafe. They have incredible selection of fishs that are both as good as anything you will find in the World’s top eateries. i had a chance to try breakfast, fish and chips. This mouthwatering cafe serves best fish that are so good you’d hear people whispering about them around Hadleigh in hushed tones. But Hey, i think fish and chips and breakfast this good need to be shouted about. Every single element of the fish and chips has been perfectly thought through. A gem of a dish that shows that when food is this good, less is often more. This was our second visit to this cafe. First time everything was excellent and had no reason to complain. Went in yesterday and ordered omelette and chips and my partner had fish and chips. We stated at the time of ordering we didnt want french fries but ordinary chips which the waitress said ok. When the food came up you guessed it it was french fries on both plates. Again we said to the waitress and she just said we dont do chips. We ate our food which in the case of the fish my partner said was lovely but my omelette was a bit sparse. I agree with others comments that the coffee is always excellent. This meal was not cheap especially as we ended up just eating fish and omelette!
