We walked into Maldon Grey absolutely starving! We were hoping to get a simple but tasty meal at a reasonable price but we sadly left disappointed. When we arrived we walked in through the door from the car park the first thing that hit us was a rotten smell, the best I can describe it was like old cooked cabbage that had been left out all night mixed with awful body oder. We waited at the door for a few minutes and saw a waitress with a large black bow in her hair walk by a few times - she didn't even make eye contact let alone say a word to us. We gave up waiting and followed her to the bar around the corner where we waited for her to look semi in our direction to grab her attention. When we said hello she just said "yeah grab a table anywhere love, menus are on them" and walked away. So we did and we waited again, for over 10 minutes. The waitress walked by us multiple times and said nothing. We finally decided to go to the bar around the corner from our table and asked her if we could order. She said we had to do so at the bar. Info that would have been great to get when she told us to sit anywhere. We ordered our food and it came out pretty quickly and looked alright so we were hopeful the lack of customer service would be worth it. However, we were very wrong. We both ordered a burger and it was so gross. It tasted like a frozen beef patty that had been sitting in the freezer for months and months and months! It was chewy, a weird grey colour, and oozed this thick, grey fatty mess all over the place. I chocked down a bit but it almost came back up instantly. The three of us couldn't eat them. The waitress took ONE off our bill but that was it. It was very expensive and not at all worth it! Save your money and go...
Read morefood tasted fantastic but very unorganised I had a table booked for 9 people at 7pm when I got there I was told there is no table available as they had 2 diary’s and my booking was only in one of them, so I had to wait, I ordered 3 non alcoholic koppenberg drinks for my under 18 teens and they were served to me but then taken off my teens as they still had alcohol in them so why are they non alcholic then ??? Then I got seated at a table and looked at menu, not many starters or deserts to choose from, I ordered 3 steak meals all cooked to our liking but when they came out none of them were how we asked for and the meal was so small and it was so unorganised that we were waiting about 15 sometimes 25 miniutes between serving when really the meals should of came out nearly at the same time, we got our dessert about 1 hour after finishing main course then when they came out all at different times they forgot 2 of them so I had to ask about them, also while ordering drinks the bar staff would start serving you then go and serve someone else at the same time I asked for a pint of Stella tops but got given a pint of fosters twice this happened, I will not be...
Read moreBooked for an afternoon roast with friends and children. Booking itself was fine and accommodated us coming earlier. However, previously on visits a couple of options have been available for children (not just roast) but were advised it was either a roast, or mac and cheese available, given the children ranged from 2 - 12 years you would expect maybe another couple of child’s meals would be available. 4 adults ordered a roast, all the beef was dry & the rest of the food was average, with 3 plates being half finished. Whilst eating, I pulled a long hair out my mouth. Immediately I took this to the bar, where the staff apologised (looked fairly confused at the time) & asked for me to return to the bar for a refund as the manager was busy. No manager appeared, to attempt to apologise or discuss; but I received a refund when I went to the bar to buy a drink for one of the children and the bar staff did apologise. Such a shame as a few months back the roast was very nice, but we will not be returning after...
