Ernie's Fish & Chips — Restaurant in Barnsley

My wife and I visited this gorgeous fish and chip restaurant/takeaway this evening and had a beautiful meal in the lovely restaurant upstairs.

It's very nicely decorated, very clean and we had a lovely welcome from the lady that served us. Service was friendly and efficient and we were made to feel very welcome.

I had the large cod and chips and my wife just had the standard one, well the standard one was large and mine was very large, perfectly cooked in the only thing amazing fish and chips has to be cooked in, beef dripping. The mushy peas were perfect, the bread soft and fresh and all washed down with a pot of delicious Yorkshire tea.

This was our first visit after finding out about them in the press yesterday saying they were number 3 in the top 10 of Yorkshire fish and chip takeaways by the fry awards and in the 50 best across the country, well done guys, it's a brilliant accolade but certainly well deserved.

We were talking to the owners upstairs and they were telling us they have entertainment nights with singers and entertainers that are very popular, we'll certainly look out for those.

This review is left regretfully. I want you to think about this very carefully & change something. ORDERED 2 fish cakes & chips. Takeaway. Got home discovered it was 2 lots of chips 1 fish cake & 1 battered sausage! it didn't look good. Manky , chips were "edible" just. Sausage batter was very hard. Even the bite through. Probably the worst battered sausage I've ever had (only ate half ) . Fish cake was ok but very very small. The OWNER must UP his / her game. You need to aim to be the absolute best chippy for miles, you have local competitors. It's NOT HARD, Good luck. Sadly I won't...

Just nipped to Holyland for a Christmas market with the wife and ended up in Ernie’s and I’m so glad we did. We love our fish n chips and Ernie’s was some of the best we’ve ever had! Cooked in dripping fat the taste was extremely satisfying, with good portions,cosy restaurant and friendly staff. Needless to say we will be back for an evening session so we can have a wine or two with our next meal. Give it a try you’ll not be...
