Gate Of India has always been a favourite of ours and last night was no exception! It was our first date 19 years ago and we chose to go to Gate Of India for it and it was perfect then and is still perfect now.
From the minute you arrive, you are greeted with front of house staff, always has a smile and is so very polite, he will show you to your table and seat you with the drinks and food menu. There's loads to choose from including wines, spirits, beer and larger also tea and coffee for if your driving. Your drinks order will be taken from one of the team and returned to you and about 5 minutes later he returned with his smile and manners to take your food order.
I urge you to treat yourself and visit the Gate Of India for an evening out. The building is very well looked after, inside is the typical British Indian style decor and it's perfect, the staff are so happy to see and cater for you. It's not a rushed environment and is very easy going.
Would I recommend the Gate Of India.. YES! 100% get yourself dressed up order a taxi and go have a fantastic meal and a drink of course, you'll be pleasantly surprised...
Read moreHaving used the Gate of India for years I can honestly say that I have never had a bad meal, so you may wonder why I am leaving a one-star review, simple. Parking! I have just received a £60.00 fine (on the 21 October) for a 1 hour 40 minute stay back on the 01 April 2022 when I went for a meal, the carpark was dark on arrival, no one mentioned parking restrictions and having been a regular customer for years I'd have thought someone would have taken the time to tell me about the new restrictions, when asked about the fine it was a blunt "what do you want us to do about it" - so now, I have paid the fine but you can say goodbye to my £60+ per week take away order and any hope of visits by me, any of my family.
Surely you can think of better ways to make money that penalise your customers for eating in or collecting food; absolute disgrace and for that reason, I would...

Onto the food, genuinely the worst Indian I’ve ever had. The biriyani had what looked like a bag of microwaved frozen veg chucked in with peas, sweetcorn, carrots and chunks of potato finding their way into the dish itself and accompanying sauce. The butter chicken was OK at best and came looking a milky white colour as if the ‘chef’ had just dumped a load of cream into the tub. Rice was ok but have an inkling it was microwaved. Poppadoms would’ve been nice but they looked as if they’d been volleyed around the car park before delivery (at almost £7!) so when they arrived it looked like a bag of confetti.
In summary, save yourself the bother and pick up a microwave curry from Londis and burn £40 if you want a...
