Costa Coffee — Restaurant in Basildon

My partner went in there today around 4.05-4.10pm. The server was extremely rude to her. He was speaking to his mate completely ignoring the fact she was standing at the till in a quiet store. He approached her and rudely stated that he wouldnt serve customers who are on the phone. She politely told him that she was on the phone to the doctors and she was on hold so it was not a problem. He continued to refuse to serve her and was very rude whilst doing so unless she hung up the phone to the doctors. She then proceeded to ask to speak to a manager in which he replied that he indeed was the manager and there was no one in store who was above him. As a regular visitor to the Costa in Wickford where staff recognise me & have always been friendly, today I was very disappointed after one of the staff was rude telling me I couldn’t use the toilet facilities if I hadn’t bought a drink. I had my young daughter with me & explained I’d be getting a drink as soon as we’d been to the toilet. And still he moaned that we needed to pay for a drink first. Seriously? This is how you treat your regular customers? Using the toilet is a necessity not a luxury! Maybe teach your staff to be a bit more pleasant in future. The service fast and effective what you come to expect at Costa, however here on the day both ladies serving were excellent hosts offered a range of items and generally made you feel it was a social experience rather than one in a series of mundane transactions.
