Mist cafe bistro — Restaurant in Basildon

It was our first visit as a tryout, we just had a coffee each, hence no stars for food this time, as none was ordered. Lovely venue with beautiful and excellent quality decor with a distinct Mediterranean feel, together with pleasant, friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Very nice coffee. We like this place, so will be returning. We wish this business all the very best and many happy years of successful trading!

Update: Following on from our first visit (see above), we've now returned for our second visit (around lunchtime on 22 June) and this time ordered food, hence there's now stars for food! We both ordered an onion omelette and chips with salad garnish. A decent size omelette and good size portion of chips with a lovely salad garnish with at least 6 different salad ingredients. Saw lots of recommended and would love to support local business so I took my kids went for a breakfast this morning. We ordered one iced coffee, one milkshake, two kid meals and one early breakfast. In fact the iced coffee was fab! But when we finishes for the bill I was shocked! Two kid meals they charge me two normal meals price. My kids one is 5 and one is 8, how come I order a normal portion size for my 5 years old kid? We definitely ask for two kid meals but end up was different prices. I choose to paid this bill because we ate the foods and I don’t want to be a trouble customer. I might will come for a cup of coffee in the future but won’t come back for a £40...

The food is always enjoyable - I have been coming here since first opening. However, yesterday was the first time we were charged extra for swaps on a breakfast that has never been charged before. It seems to be getting very expensive every time. My friend swapped an item for scrambled egg and I swapped a breakfast item for avocado. £2.80 extra we were charged per item and therefore- 2 breakfasts, 2 teas and a bottle of water £35 (£17.50 per person). Will be coming less than usual now as just cant afford those extra prices. For that reason, I like to go to Mems where tea/coffee and swaps are included in the set menu price and would cost £20.
