We visited Barton's Mill yesterday for a Sunday roast with a group of friends. There were 7 adults and 5 kids, so quite a few of us but, after booking everything with Ollie, the General Manager over the phone, he was great at sending the menus for us to pre-order our main courses to ensure they had the right amount of food in. One thing I was surprised about was, as Ollie had said we only needed to pre-order mains, we hadn't looked at starters etc and, when we arrived and sat down, our food was brought out pretty quickly, which was great for the hungry kids, but not being offered the menus for starters was surprising. I'm not saying we necessarily needed them, or would have ordered, but I think they are missing a trick if they're not being offered. Anyway, the food was very good, veggies cooked perfectly and the cauliflower cheese was delicious! We followed up with puddings and everyone went home very happy and stuffed! The pub was incredibly busy, being a hot sunny day by the stream/river, but the staff managed to keep us topped up with drinks etc, without too much delay. We would definitely go back as a group again!

This was a really interesting place to visit. It's an old watermill, and part of the original mill mechanism, along with the water leat can still be seen inside the building. They've put up a canvas awning around the outside of the building in order to provide facilities in the fresh air during the pandemic; and these have proved most effective. They offer a good range of food and drink, whether it's for a party or just a meal out. We were very happy with the service, even though they were extremely busy. They have refurbished what appears to have been an old stables, and offer a dozen bedrooms close by. These have been decorated to a very high standard, with en suite bathroom of a good size, and extremely comfortable beds. We had a very pleasant stay. However, a word of warning to those with reduced mobility; the paths around the rooms are made with gravel, so they can be a bit tricky to negotiate. There are some interesting walks in the area and along the river; well worth spending an afternoon or even a day and night here.

Myself and eight friends came to the rubber duck race on bank holiday Monday which was a fantastically well put on event in itself. When it was finished but we still had over an hour and a half to wait until our dinner reservation, I asked if there was any chance we could eat early and Barton's immediately saw us to our table, quickly served us drinks and checked in on any allergy concerns, dinner swiftly followed and nothing was too much trouble (a couple of us had a sharer starter as a main and our gluten free friend was informed of what was available for them and then fully catered for). When it came to paying the bill and splitting it between us all, the lovely server grabbed a pad and started working out the maths on our behalf, then coming over with the card machine for us all to pay. From arrival at midday to leaving at 5:15pm, we could not have enjoyed ourselves more - a wonderful day out with wonderful people, thank you for such a perfect day!!

We had our wedding reception at Bartons Mill on a November weekend, I cant stress enough how well everything went.

Since the start of planning I felt like I was being genuinely listened to, I didn’t want a wedding package so I worked with Mike to plan something more chilled and informal which suited us and our guests perfectly, I couldn’t believe that I had found a venue so accommodating.

When we had to re-schedule our big day at short notice we were able to choose another day without any hassle and the Mill were very understanding.

I felt like the planning process had the perfect amount of collaboration, at no point was there stressful back and forth scenarios or misunderstandings. I had a few spreadsheets on the go and thought I had everything super organised but Mike was always able to pick out a tiny detail that I hadn’t considered and made sure that there was something in place, he was incredibly helpful from day 1.

On the day there were no glitches at all, everything was setup as I had imagined, the front of house team were amazing and the bar staff were excellent, Mano who acted as master of ceremonies did such a good job.

We had 40 guests and just used the downstairs space and there was plenty of room, I had so many comments about how good the atmosphere was and how the venue felt so cosy and perfect ( We had the amazing open fire lit and a lot of candles). The original features of the room are so beautiful we didn’t need to go overboard with decorations.

The standard of the food was so good and another thing everyone commented on, we had a few guests with specific needs (vegan, fussy children, babies…) and all of them enjoyed their food.

I never write reviews so I don’t think my comments do Bartons Mill & the staff justice but

I will echo someone else’s review and say - If you are thinking about having your wedding/reception/event here then DO IT.

You will be in very,...

We went for an evening meal last Sunday., having booked a table for 6 (4 adults, 2 children). We arrived; the restaurant was closed due to staff shortages ( no problem with that - I’m sure many other places were similarly short-staffed due to Covid). We were told we could sit anywhere, but we had to create our own table for six, as in spite of booking, nothing had been arranged for us., nor were we offered a hand moving tables and chairs. We were handed the menus, which seemed fine, but as she came to take our order, we were given an additional hand-written list of “things that weren’t available ( which was a large percentage of the main courses) and told that none of the Sunday roasts were available either.||I had a Welsh rarebit with celeriac and apple salad starter which was quite unlike any Welsh rarebit I had ever eaten - a sloppy mess straddling a couple of pieces of very soggy toast - I didn’t notice any celeriac nor apple. This inedible starter was priced at £7.25.|I followed this with a gammon steak with eggs and chips ( mainly because that was the only thing left on the menu that I could eat).; I passed on the pineapple once I was told it was probably tinned, and I didn’t notice any chilli chutney. The gammon was tough and chewy, the chips were OK, but the eggs were nice. My husband had fis & chips with mushy peas, and wished he hadn’t.||Whereas one could say this was reasonable pub fare, the prices were more like mid-range restaurant prices - most of the main courses (had they been available) were in the range of £14 - £19. Presentation of the food left a lot to be desired. |We didn’t risk the sweet trolley!||I appreciate that it is currently difficult for hospitality venues, who are working under difficult conditions and are short-staffed, but this pub clearly once had a good reputation. They are in grave danger...
