We had our wedding reception at Bartons Mill on a November weekend, I cant stress enough how well everything went.
Since the start of planning I felt like I was being genuinely listened to, I didn’t want a wedding package so I worked with Mike to plan something more chilled and informal which suited us and our guests perfectly, I couldn’t believe that I had found a venue so accommodating.
When we had to re-schedule our big day at short notice we were able to choose another day without any hassle and the Mill were very understanding.
I felt like the planning process had the perfect amount of collaboration, at no point was there stressful back and forth scenarios or misunderstandings. I had a few spreadsheets on the go and thought I had everything super organised but Mike was always able to pick out a tiny detail that I hadn’t considered and made sure that there was something in place, he was incredibly helpful from day 1.
On the day there were no glitches at all, everything was setup as I had imagined, the front of house team were amazing and the bar staff were excellent, Mano who acted as master of ceremonies did such a good job.
We had 40 guests and just used the downstairs space and there was plenty of room, I had so many comments about how good the atmosphere was and how the venue felt so cosy and perfect ( We had the amazing open fire lit and a lot of candles). The original features of the room are so beautiful we didn’t need to go overboard with decorations.
The standard of the food was so good and another thing everyone commented on, we had a few guests with specific needs (vegan, fussy children, babies…) and all of them enjoyed their food.
I never write reviews so I don’t think my comments do Bartons Mill & the staff justice but
I will echo someone else’s review and say - If you are thinking about having your wedding/reception/event here then DO IT.
You will be in very,...
Read moreWe went for an evening meal last Sunday., having booked a table for 6 (4 adults, 2 children). We arrived; the restaurant was closed due to staff shortages ( no problem with that - I’m sure many other places were similarly short-staffed due to Covid). We were told we could sit anywhere, but we had to create our own table for six, as in spite of booking, nothing had been arranged for us., nor were we offered a hand moving tables and chairs. We were handed the menus, which seemed fine, but as she came to take our order, we were given an additional hand-written list of “things that weren’t available ( which was a large percentage of the main courses) and told that none of the Sunday roasts were available either.||I had a Welsh rarebit with celeriac and apple salad starter which was quite unlike any Welsh rarebit I had ever eaten - a sloppy mess straddling a couple of pieces of very soggy toast - I didn’t notice any celeriac nor apple. This inedible starter was priced at £7.25.|I followed this with a gammon steak with eggs and chips ( mainly because that was the only thing left on the menu that I could eat).; I passed on the pineapple once I was told it was probably tinned, and I didn’t notice any chilli chutney. The gammon was tough and chewy, the chips were OK, but the eggs were nice. My husband had fis & chips with mushy peas, and wished he hadn’t.||Whereas one could say this was reasonable pub fare, the prices were more like mid-range restaurant prices - most of the main courses (had they been available) were in the range of £14 - £19. Presentation of the food left a lot to be desired. |We didn’t risk the sweet trolley!||I appreciate that it is currently difficult for hospitality venues, who are working under difficult conditions and are short-staffed, but this pub clearly once had a good reputation. They are in grave danger...
