Where to begin…

I travelled from Thatcham to try this place out. It kept popping up on my instagram and after delving into some of the google reviews, I knew it wasn’t just an algorithm trying to trick me into going somewhere that was just average and ‘clever’ marketing. There was a great reason it kept popping up.

Now I love trying out new local eateries (new to me) and this one was no exception.

Brownie points prior to the visit, I replied to one of their IG stories enquiring about parking and Susanne got straight back to me! (Shout out to Susanne).

So the visit itself, Old Basing is pretty cute but today it was just about the food, no walks involved but there will be in the future (just so I can justify stuffing my face 🤣).

Started off with a generously filled roll with pork belly(no brisket in sight… next time!!) , all the sauces and all the slaw. Now, this is a compliment within itself, I’m not into slaw, I’ll do anything to dodge it but today I thought… let’s give it a go! Succulent, tasty and good value for money. All the flavours complemented one another. Top notch in all the ways.

Next we have dessert, although after the roll i did think maybe my eyes were bigger than my belly… but the show must go on. There was one slice of blueberry cake left so I went for it. Great consistency, bursting with flavour, fantastic quality bake… perfection 👌

Feeling rather full at this point, a sip here, a sip there… I finish it all off with a flat white. Nice glass, educated me on why they don’t do skimmed milk. Tells me that they don’t wanna make a rubbish coffee, and thought and consideration has gone into why they purchase and use the ingredients they do. Top drawer, a nice quality coffee,… perfection. It’s always disappointing when you go somewhere and to be honest, it tastes no different to a latte. Glad to say, this wasn’t the case at the street bakeshop. So all in all, a brilliant visit and I WILL shout about it. A great independent business, bustling with people on a Sunday with a queue out of the door… why? Well…. Go and see for yourself. It won’t be a ‘hidden’ gem for long.

Keep up the great work and I look forward to my next visit soon. Ps… these pictures do NOT...

I absolutely love this bakery and the food is great however, it is far from a relaxing experience which is an utter shame. As the establishment has become more and more popular over the last few months (which is great for the business) going for lunch or a coffee date is utter chaos. Firstly, the parking is horrendous. As it’s on a residential road you’re more than likely to park on the road and I always feel so guilty having to do this as the neighbours around this bakery get extremely frustrating and I’ve even witnessed a car accident due to this. Secondly, you’re likely to be in a long queue when ordering and waiting a while for your food and drinks because of this the employees always seem rushed off their feet. Lastly, this place is always overcrowded and the last few times we’ve been it hasn’t been an enjoyable experience due to this. Additionally coming in with a pushchair or wheel chair is probably not the best place to go to. However, with that said I do like how the bakery always has something different in store so it’s a nice surprise and everything is...

We frequently go to the Street Bakeshop in Old Basing. We have never eaten anything at the café itself but I would say it looks mouthwatering.

We usually go on a Sunday if we do go, and they have the most delicious, slow cooked pulled pork joint that they put on buns with loads of other things.

People tell me their baked goods are heavenly although I have never tried them but will soon!

They sell dry wors, biltong, boerewors and Käsegriller (cheesegriller) sausages in a fridge on the side and we quickly go and grab some ever few months. It is beyond delicious.

The ambiance is very nice, it has the proper small village, countryside café nailed to a T.

I would mention that parking is an issue, it is an old part of Basingstoke after all, so be prepared to drive up and down a bit sometimes, with areas where you have to wait for other cars due to cars parked on the side of the road.

The surrounding area is also nice, a few minutes' walk away (maybe even one minute) is Basing House and a quant pub next...

I LOVE this place. Think Aussie brunch culture meets the narrow streets of suburban Basingstoke. I decided to take a Saturday morning drive to visit Street Bakeshop, things of great importance to report on: A. They had sold out of a number of pastries indicated by the host of crumbs, like autumn leaves scattered across the forgotten display plates. B. Parking near the bakeshop could be the next Olympic sport. I experienced an anxious - hangry combo, solved by parking around the corner and having a pleasant stroll. C. Praise be the Brisket Blaa! Delicious. Yum. Love it. I can’t even describe how delightful this was - decent size and very fairly priced too. D. I got a sweet pastry thing - maybe it was an apricot danish, I’m not sure, mainly because I didn’t read the sign - but this was a buttery mess of yum too. This is one of the places to gate keep because it is already popular AF, but I’m feeling kind and I want them to continue in their success so I can continue to delight in their array of treats!

We were staying at a hotel in Basingstoke and looking for a good place to have breakfast. We came across The Street Bakeshop on Google and are so glad we decided to go. We arrived on a Sunday just before 9am and there was already quite a long queue forming. The selection really surprised us: it was large, everything looked delicious, and more importantly, everything tasted as good as it looked. The four of us each picked something different, from croissants to sausage rolls to a pastry with brie and everything was excellent. There’s also a seating area where you can enjoy your breakfast on the spot, which was lovely. Friendly staff as well, which made the whole experience even better. So happy we found this hidden gem!
