We visited as a family today and we left absolutely miserable. It was a birthday celebration that we booked for my father and the service we received was diabolical. So much so that it caused the toddler in our family to become distressed and I had to walk out and leave my meal as the waiter and the manager were so unbelievably rude and refused to abide by the law being that anyone over the age of 16, accompanied by an adult can have a drink with a meal. I was asked for my ID and i provided a photo which was not enough so i accepted and when my father asked for an extra glass with our bottle of champagne for myself, they refused and said that it was due to me not having ID. We brought up the law about being over 16 with an adult and they said they don’t abide by that law here and they’ve changed it… i looked on the website and it stated that nowhere. I am almost 20 years of age with tattoos and i was holding my son the entire time. i don’t look under 18 at all, let alone 16, i also provided a picture of my ID. I have worked in hospitality long enough to know this treatment was despicable. May i add that the other two people accompanying us were not asked to provide ID, one of who was actually 17 and therefore did have a drink with her meal. I left the restaurant in tears after how i had been spoken too and saw the waiter smirking at me from behind the bar. Other than that the food was cold, and i was not able to even eat the rest of my meal. We doubt that after the shocking customer service we received today that we would receiving any money back or money off our next visit. I am considering taking this further and to social media too as I’m a reputable influencer who was excited to make my posts about my experience but i’m afraid i’m leaning more towards posting what my visit was actually like today. So disappointing as this pub used to be our family favourite. Disgraceful, to...
Read more3 of us had a meal there today (wed 6 nov). We arrived at approx 2.15. The food was good, large portions. The service was appalling, very very slow, even though there was only 6 or so people in the mill. The drinks were served, then after half an hour we had to chase the menu, even though all 3 people were using walking aids. Menus brought and we were told it would be table service because of walking aids. Half an hour or so later one of us had to go to the bar to order the food. Once ordered food came in good time. Once eaten another three quarters of hour we had to chase the bill. No one came to take payment. The person, I take to be bar manager, printed out the bill and instead of bringing it over, stood talking to other customers for 5 mins, the bill was brought to the table and was told the machine would be brought to us, 10 mins later we had to chase some for that too. I would like to state that apart from the occasions when we chased for service etc.NO MEMBER OF STAFF WAS VISABLE, FRONT OF HOUSE. No one checked if meal was ok or if we required another drink or dessert or coffee. All 3 of us were wrapped in shawls because the room was so cold that it was almost too cold to stay. The whole time we were in the mill, there was another table that had brought their dog. The dog barked the whole time, from us going in at approx 2.15 to them leaving an hour or more later. Also a child that was completely unruly. The whole ambiance of the mill was wrong because of a barking dog, its owner saying, why or you barking, shush, be quiet, no more barking you bad boy. NOT CONDUCIVE TO AN ENJOYABLE TIME. So all in all, SERVICE DIABOLICAL, ROOM ICE COLD, NO STAFF AVAILABLE AT ALL. Not an enjoyable meal, which it should have been. Not a place I would recommend nor that I will be...
Read moreCame here on a Saturday with friends and our two dogs after visiting a nearby sunflower field. I had already booked a table in advance, so on arrival we were seated very quickly at a spacious table (for the dogs) and there was already a highchair at the table as per my request when making thr booking. Why can’t all pubs/restaurants be this organised!
The service was good and staff were friendly, however I must say that our waitress wasn’t the smartest and messed up our bill. Unfortunately I had only realised after I got home and so it was too late to do anything by then. I had a complimentary drinks voucher and also a £20 off £40 spend voucher, she put both vouchers through the till and it worked but told us the drinks voucher didn’t work. It did work because on the bill it said free drink £0 and the code has now disappeared from my vintage inns app due to being redeemed. I was still charged £5.70 for the ‘free’ peroni though. The children’s menu was £7.25 and included a glass of milk or squash, however we were still charged an extra £0.50 for the milk. So all in all we were overcharged by £6.20.
The food in general was good however some ingredients did not look the freshest. It would have been nice if the carrots were peeled prior to roasting and the cabbage and broccoli were checked before cooking (they were a bit manky/dry/stale). The cucumber stick from the kids meal needed to be washed (skin had white marks on them) and the carrot sticks were dry and weren’t cut/peeled properly. They were so manky that I ended up feeling them to our dogs instead.
Overall not a bad visit, however being overcharged has left me feeling a bit bitter and also with the meals being fairly expensive I would have expected fresher quality ingredients and better...
