I have not been to Jellybean in a few years amd I remember back then they had great toasties and soup. Today I was in M&S next door and we thought we would nip in and have a coffee. The place was dreary and little to no atmosphere. We ordered 2 coffees and what they call a power ball. Basically a protein ball .highly recommended by the staff member. The coffee was nice but the power ball was so dry it tasted like the Sahara Desert. It stuck to roof of our mouths and we could hardly swallow it. We spoke to the staff member and she apologised and asked did we want anything else and my friend opted for a slice of banna bread which he said was OK. When he went to pay the bill it came to £12.10. I thought it was expensive for 2 coffees and the banana bread. So I went to the till and asked had they charged for the power balls that were either off, stale or inedible? It was either the owner or manager and she said she had tasted a bit of our powerball and it was fine. She had decided to charge us £1 each for the ingredients and there was nothing wrong with them and this was due to the fact we just didn't like them. She also said she has one every day and people come to the cafe specifically for the power balls I couldn't believe her customer service she was not very pleasant to deal with. So my round up on this place is, STAY AWAY from the Poweballs and there is no point in complaining as they will charge you anyway. If you look at my Google reviews I mostly rate anywhere I have eaten a 4 or 5 star review but I have written this review because the experience was atrocious. I certainly wasn't looking for a freebie and I like to support local but we will never set foot in...
Read moreDespite living in the area I hadn't visited Jellybean Café before, but I had an hour to kill between appointments and thought I'd stop off for a coffee. It was fairly quiet when I went in at 10.45am, with only a few older couples and a few mums with their tots, but the staff were welcoming and friendly.
Having ensured that yes, I could pay by card (phew!), I ordered scrambled eggs and bacon on granary toast and a latté, all of which were served promptly and hot and tasted great. The coffee especially was a pleasant surprise - smooth and rounded, with not even a hint of that burnt taste you get in some coffee shops.
I paid a very reasonable price for my late breakfast and headed back out to my next appointment, all within half an hour.
The café itself is very family-friendly, with a kids' play area at the back near the counter, over to the left-hand side and a microwave to warm bottles, etc. The little tots there today were having great fun playing with the toys while mum sorted out snacks for everyone, and the staff were super friendly and helpful too.
The only reason I've taken a star off full marks is that the seating (perhaps bar the sofa that was in use when I arrived) is quite uncomfortable, and the tables are quite awkward to sit at because you can't get your legs underneath between the narrow legs. But otherwise it's a great wee place and I'd thoroughly recommend it if you're in the area and need a quick coffee and a...
