Jolpai — Restaurant in Birmingham

Last order from Jolpai tonight. Been a regular customer for 2 years. Would order at least couple times a month. The food has always been 'good' and had an edge over other Indian takeaway nearby, enough to make up for the crappy customer service. From the delivery guy that used to complain on arrival my place was too far, despite me living 8 min away. Your boss doesn't think it's too far when he takes my money and accepts my order? Speak to him if you dont like coming here, not the paying customer. How unprofessional and rude. To the guys on the phone that always sound like you're doing them an inconvenience by making an order and asking for simple tweaks to the meal like add a bit of extra heat to my massala, oh but we must charge you extra for this. Youre already charging a premium over competitors nearby (whom never ask u to pay extra if you want more heat in your meal) I ask for 'finely chopped' fresh green chilli in my bryani, they just throw whole soggy oily green chilli's and they can't be bothered to take 5 seconds to finely chop them. Then as they putting phone down you can catch the odd insult in urdu. And today the quality of food finally (and inevitably) plummeted to match the crap customer service, all dishes swimming in oil and grease (including rice), onion bhajis not even cooked (cold) whole green chilli's thrown in AGAIN after asking for them finely chopped. Some weird soggy horrible looking date type things in my bryani. Went in the bin. Bye bye jolpai. Just look how old and dated the decor is inside the restaurant, amount of money these guys have made since they last decorated (about 30 years ago by looks of it) and they don't want to invest anything on a refurb? Honestly find somewhere else to eat. If asked a few months ago I’d have left a gleaming review for this restaurant based on the last 10 years. What I’ve experienced in the last few months has been appalling. Having been an almost weekly customer for literally 10 years along with my immediate and wider family (to the point my 8 year old asked to go here for her birthday celebration!) I’m so disappointed in the poor management and service. The staff are rude and cold, we have been made to feel a nuisance for being there. There are 12 of us who dine regularly and we’ve all felt the same. The last straw is gone off sea food being served with no apology and ‘ill knock half off the bill cos you ate the one prawn’ with two pregnant women and a child eating that evening that isn’t good enough. I was surprised and shocked to read the adverse comments regarding Jolpai. My husband and I have also been coming to this restaurant since it opened and have always been impressed with the excellent food and service. I have never known the staff to be rude or discourteous. On the contrary they have bent over backwards to accommodate our requirements. Our grandchildren aged 8 and 3 especially enjoy coming here and love the attention they get from the staff who personalise their meals. We come here at least once a week and sometimes more and usually see the same customers who have also been coming here for years.
