The setting is fab, the food was gorgeous. The waiting staff were really friendly but unfortunately we asked for extra sugar for a coffee and never got any and another member of our party asked for salt and never got any, so it would improve the experience if this was addressed. The food took a little longer than I would have hoped for but was well worth the wait! And now for the full on moan! Sorry! My partner asked if we could still walk round the lake and we were told we could get a pass from the bar, which we did. I asked a waitress if it mattered which gate we went through and she said either was fine. I wanted our dog to have a little cool down at the edge of the lake so we went through the big gate as I know there's a slipway there where he could easily paddle in. A man I'm assuming was the owner saw us opening the gate and came over to say that he didn't mind us waking round the lake but he would prefer people to use the other gate. He wasn't rude or aggressive but he does need to clarify his wishes with a sign and inform his staff so that when people ask what the rules are they give the right answer. It feels a bit much when you've just spent £81 in the restaurant, got a pass, asked the rules and then you still get a comment like you've done something wrong. It's not the first time he's done this sort of thing. We walked our dog around the lake once and we're going to get a coffee afterwards and he followed us in his van and told us (again, not rudely) that he didn't mind us walking round the lake but was just checking who we were. We said that We intended to get a coffee afterwards and he said yes but there's a private event on. If this was the case he needs to say that on a sign cos if we'd seen one we wouldn't have even bothered going up the drive. I can understand him wanting to keep tabs on who's round his lake etc. but he needs to find a more subtle way of doing it. Would still go...
Read moreMe and my partner came to this lake after googling a place to sit and have a relaxed time, we came with picnic equipment and a tent to block the sun, the staff saw all this and told us after we asked that we would be able to sit and dip our feet in the water, after spending a few hours sat by the lake sunbathing and reading, we were approached by a man who proceeded to verbally berate and abuse us, accusing us of impropriety and insisting we leave with increasingly hostile tone and body language, after getting back to the pub venue we asked to speak to the manager who was sat at a table with the prior man and another man, who was not an employee, but still joined in berating us for "not reading the signage" which nowhere stated there was a rule against sitting and spending time there, we were not met with apologies but instead condescension. I got the chance to speak to the manager one one on, which is what should have happened in the first place, rather than allowing her husband and a random customer to berate us, and she was polite, and stated that her husband (the man who initially berated us) was "hot tempered" on occasion, clearly true, but she still never agreed that things could have been handled better, instead all three of them deflected blame to their...
Read moreOn arrival at the lakes we didn't realise that you had dine at the restaurant in order to be welcome. A friend and neighbour had told me about stanton lakes and suggested I take the children as they would enjoy it so we decide to go amd take a small picnic of sandwich and crisps and then buy a coffee/dessert after we had finished. This didn't happen due to the owner/employee coming over to us and opening the conversation with "you can't have a picnic here"..... not hello or excuse me!!! I was very shocked by her condescending attitude and how she wasn't explain herself, we hadn't been to the lakes before amd we assumed "patrons" only meant you couldn't park in the car park unless walking the lake or using the cafe, which after our sandwiches we intended to do.... I asked if you were able to walk around the lakes and I was told basically only if you eat at the restaurant. I then asked if they would like us to leave and was told yes!!!! Very rude, very unprofessional and clearly the fact that I look as though I may not fit into the correct pay bracket to use the lakes facilities we were unwelcome. The money we may have spent at the restaurant will now be sent elsewhere. Absolutely...
