We went to Meg-a Cakes Cafe for the first time today. Amongst other things we ordered two cheese salad rolls. When we got home, we discovered that there was no salad in them - just cheese. We drove all the way back. It was extremely busy and we had to wait a long time to be served. The person who served us was the owner. From start to finish this person's manner was unfriendly, unhelpful and belligerent.
Whilst she offered an apology her facial expressions and tone showed clearly that she was not sincere. I am deaf and so I lip read and watch faces very carefully when talking, especially in very noisy places like cafes and restaurants. It is worth noting that when I pointed out that I was deaf and had not heard her apology her response was to say, 'Well, that's not myâŠ.â She stopped herself just in time from finishing that sentence. When she pulled up our order and noted that it was recorded incorrectly, she said that we would have to pay extra for the salad. This was remarkable, given that it was her staff who had taken down our order incorrectly. Furthermore, we pointed out that the third sandwich we had bought was requested without salad and that was recorded incorrectly too. Given these errors on their part and the inconvenience to us for having to drive out again to the cafĂ©, one would expect the owner to act with a modicum of courtesy and wave the cost of the salad. When the error in the third sandwich was pointed out to her, she did deduct the cost of salad from one sandwich.
When I pointed out to that I expected her to behave with more grace and that I did not appreciate her tone or her manner, she doubled-down. She never smiled once or behaved in a way that demonstrated regret at the poor service we had received.
I agreed to pay the difference and she went off into the kitchen area. We waited for quite a few minutes. Then, I noticed her standing in the lobby area between the kitchen and cafĂ© crying and looking at me askance. Some of her staff gathered around her. It was obvious this was all for show and sympathy. Her lack of maturity and professionalism as someone running a business was sorely lacking. I expressed my disgust to my son who had accompanied me and went so far to say I am worried that they might spit in our food. At this point, one of her staff went and spoke to the Owner and their huddle became more animated. One member of her staff, rather cartoonishly, stuck her neck out from kitchen, looked me up and down and said in a very sneery manner, âOh her.â
I had had enough of this disrespect by this point. I went over to the manager and said that I did not appreciate her staff speaking about me this way. She became more belligerent and that member of staff who had made the remark about me began to protest her innocence. I reiterated that I was deaf but could lip-read very well. I also said that now I just wanted a refund. The owner agreed to this readily but with her trade-mark ill-mannered attitude. These bad manners were further demonstrated when she failed to place the money in my hand. She plonked it down on the counter. I challenged this behaviour and said that she would not be tainted if, God forbid, she touched me accidentally. I would point out that the owner of the Mega-a Cakes CafĂ© is serving a diverse community. Placing money in customersâ hands is a mark of respect in many cultures.
All the owner had to do was say, âIâm really sorry we got your order wrong. Iâll get some salad put in to your rolls.â Additionally, as a gesture of good will, she should have waived the cost of the salad. After all, they got the order wrong and I was highly inconvenienced by having to drive all...
Read moreWhen Meg had a shop in Ratby I popped in a couple of times. (To be honest I intended to go more but parking was never easy). But as some who knows Meg and Pam I was so pleased that their business in the village was a raging success. Needless to say I was very excited when I found out they were going to open an eat-in cafe, and what made it better is itâs very close to where I live. Though some would call it a cafe to be honest Iâd be more inclined to say itâs a restaurant that opens for typically cafe times. Why would I say that you ask? Well when I went in it was during morning school drop off time and there were a fair few available seats. However once the kids were at school between 09:30 and 10:00 it filled up very quickly. There were even tables reserved. These were not just parents either whoâd dropped their kids off at school. There were business meetings being held and there were people grabbing a bite before they went shopping. The atmos was alive and well. I had a breakfast washed down with a canned drink and I wasnât disappointed. The food was fresh and nice and yes they said sorry to us as the kitchen was flat out and the food took a little longer than normal because of this. But it was worth the wait. Now Meg and Pam are local people and it was very good to see them getting well supported. Will I be back? Yep defo. In fact Iâm going again shortly. Overall Mega a Cakes is another Gem added to the Glenfield community. Itâs not expensive for the standard of food. And the cakes look and taste amazing. One day I can see Meg having a much larger premises as Iâd place her one the âone to watchâ list. A promising career is well underway and itâs going to get a lot better for them. You only have to visit the cafe and youâll see that...
Read moreTwo weeks ago, I went to Meg-a-Cake with a friend to order a bacon and egg cob to take away, we waited 25 mins, the room was almost full of customers.
I went there again today with a friend at 1:50pm and the room was less than half full of customers. I ordered a bacon baguette, chicken Caesar wraps and two pots of tea, to dine in. I asked the lady at the counter to bring the tea at the same time as when the food is brought out. 15 minutes later the tea was served, then 5 minutes later the tea was starting to get cold and we needed to drink it, but going it undesirable.
My friend found her cup very dirty, so she waited for the food to be brought out so that she could tell the waitress about this. By the time the food was served 30 mins later, I told the waitress that the tea was cold and that I asked for it to be served at the same time as the food was brought out. The waitress gave me a fresh pot of tea 5 minutes later.
I cannot understand why it took 45 minutes to make our food or that it was a problem with the tea, which was quite simple to do.
We would rather have gone to Country Kitchen as they have excellent service, are professional, friendly and would do as I requested., their crockery is always clean, and if we had ordered exactly the same food as we ordered from yourselves, it would have been made...
