The Waterbridge — Restaurant in Blaby

I must stress this awful experience was corrected by the manager on the day. Our first time here Having been greated and seated, menus given I was delighted to see several tables occupied and four members of staff on duty. We adjusted the table location slightly because the swing door into the kitchen was very close and a draft was felt Every time someone came in it out. Order taken and we made too requests..coffee was very important ( been three hours since my last drink ) and could the fruit waffles please be served with items all separate on the plate ( granddaughter is four and doesn't do messy!) Well ! Coffee never arrived nor the other drinks. My original order was a breakfast item and that service had finished . Never told this by the waitress when placing the order! In fact she returned from the kitchen so obviously they knew more than her! When the main meals did arrive my granddaughters waffles had everything on the plate but all together not separate as requested. Still no coffee at that point. I had enough, told them I was leaving and got up. Manager arrived,apologised immediately organised waffle replacement and took item off the bill. Drinks were promised asap . Coffee arrived with no spoon and no sugar! I got up and got these items myself. Manufactured Waffles were seen being taken out freezer. When these arrived,served as requested, my granddaughters only ate three strawberries. Waffles were hard and stuck together. For £6.96 i would have expected a homemade waffle and more fruit...it really was poor. My jacket potato was ok but salad and homemade coleslaw had far too much onion in it. My daughter in law was happy with her panini. I was told by the manager Annette ? That her chef had walked out and one floor staff was new in the job today. I also heard a member of staff be very rude to this new starter when he asked if the food he was about to serve was ok! He obviously knew something wasn't right but was met with such unprofessional behaviour. I understand this was mostly likely a very unlucky visit for us. I paid my bill divided by 2 and quite frankly I would not return for two reasons. Poor floor staff service and poor quality ingredients. Shame because the venue is lovely. We’ve just had afternoon tea at The Waterbridge for my Mother’s 75th birthday. It’s no longer an open to the public cafe, but an on request venue. As long as you have more than 10 people Annette will open for you and not just for afternoon tea. We had a party of 12. There were no other parties taking place at the same time as us so it was perfect, especially thinking about taking precautions for Covid.

Annette was happy to be flexible on the sandwich fillings and even the drinks, tea, coffee and hot chocolate for us. She asked for 50% payment upfront and explained that extra drinks could be bought on the day but as they don’t have a card machine, these would have to be paid for by cash.

The food was really nice, everyone enjoyed it and was full. Annette was happy for us to bring any uneaten food away with us. The front half of The Waterbridge has a pretty, vintage feel to it. The back half of the venue is more industrial looking. We had a pretty table in the pretty front section.

I visited the Waterbridge for their new Saturday evening bistro menu, which has only been on offer for 3 weeks at time of writing. Overall I'd rate this pretty well but I can't quite give it 5 stars. The menu isn't huge and they don't currently offer starters, though this may change. The food they do offer is very well prepared, attractively presented and reasonably priced. The staff were all very attentive, warm and friendly and I couldn't fault the staff. The only downside for me was that I was uncomfortably cold for the entire meal because both the front door and back door were open, creating a through-draft for the entire time. Even though they did shut the back door to upon my request there was still a breeze. It was unfortunate because this detracted from the otherwise excellent experience but was unavoidable because there is an outdoor seating area and the door cannot be fully closed.
