This being my 1st visit here for a family pre Christmas gathering on a Sunday lunch time for a Carvery. There's a carpark at the back of the building for about 30 cars & does get busy .Once inside I noticed the place had been very impressively decorated for the festive season. Already having pre booked a table for 11 & apparently in the conservatory .The table arrangements did have slate reserved signs on them but no names so it's confusing which table is yours,so an inquiry was needed .Cash or card payments are accepted at the bar which does also have a large room seating area & you also pay for the meals at the bar & receive a ticket to hand in for for the carvery .The Carvery had a choice of 4 different meats ,numerous vegetables & potatoes along with gravy & sauces .I really enjoyed the meal in the decorative conservatory surroundings & noticed the landlord does mingle with his customers & is very funny. I did view the menu & this does offer an extensive range of food options aswel .I did enjoy the experience apart from the initial table situation, the conservatory is lovely setting to enjoy a meal whether as a couple or in a group .I would recommend it

A great hotel, downtown right beside the Ginza district shops and restaurants and the main station. Rooms are 5 star standard, and the breakfast is fantastic and includes Western options. Friendly helpful staff with pretty good English speaking. Relaxing lobby area for drinks and a terraced area with outside heaters.

Had a lovely meal at The Gate Hotel after being seriously let down at the Jug and Glass. Delicious pulled pork burger and chips, food was hot and didn't have to wait long for it. Will definitely visit again soon. Friendly helpful staff and great music

My very first visit for food. Not a good experience. Went for mothers day lunch. Was told it's only an hour slot so don't bother ordering off of the menu as there's a 35 minute wait you may as well have the cavery and go and get in the queue now as it's only going to get longer. The beef was dry, 2 of us asked asked for peas 3 times but nobody took any notice. The rest of the carvery was lovely, they were generous with the meat and it was nice to have salad available. But the whole experience felt to rushed to order a pudding or coffee/teas. This should be a nice family occasion not a clock watching experience. 1:30 hours would just give that time to enjoy your meal without feeling rushed. Sat in the conservatory but would hate to have been in the main pub which was rather crammed and people queueing around you at the far end for...
