Deane Golf Club — Restaurant in Bolton

My family recently booked the function room for a reception after a funeral, but the experience was quite mixed.

It proved difficult to get hold of the Club's staff so we could confirm the price and make payment at what was, obviously, a difficult time. We eventually got hold of them, but only after a number of phone calls and emails. We only got hold of them the day before tge funeral.

It was a needless inconvenience and it was one example of what was, in retrospect, self-serving complacency and insensitivity.

The location of the gentlemen's toilet also made it difficult for a disabled member of our family to use the facilities (he has limited mobility, as well as being blind and the room is up a flight of stairs). The decor in the men's is also dated. Seeing carpet in the cubicles reminded me of Phoenix Nights.

The bar staff were also pushy. They were quite obvious in their efforts to get us out by 7pm. A little patience would have been appreciated. In both the staff's dress and manner, there was little sign that the event concerned was funereal.

The saving graces were the very good food and the excellent views from the front of the club. Personally, I cannot recommend using Deane Golf Club.

EDIT: After finding the review, the Golf Club's staff decided to contact my family to add pressure to remove the review. No apologies were offered. Rather, as if to vindicate the point about insensitivity and complacency, they found the review 'harsh' rather than dealing with its detail. It is a very unprofessional approach...

Upon entry to the golf club, there's a barrier to get into the car park with a keypad code to activate it. I'm surprised than in the current situation we find ourselves regarding covid that there would be a key pad that every one has to touch. However, once inside, the course is superb with lush, pristine fairways, smooth, true greens and very challenging holes. Due to covid restrictions the club cannot supply rakes to the bunkers, so they are a little bit hit or miss regarding the quality of them so i can see no way to fault the club over this. The staff ranging from the club pro to the greens keepers to the bar staff are very approachable and helpful and the club members ( at least the ones that i encountered ) are very friendly. I've played this course quite a few times and for the very reasonable price of the round ( see website ) would recommend this course to any golfer. Note. This is not some hoity toity, fancy golf club so don't expect to be treated like royalty. Its just an honest golf club for...

Just had Dads funeral and came back here to Deane Gold Club afterwards. I want to personally thank Nick the 👨‍🍳 for going out of his way to cater for the gluten and egg free dietary requirements from Duncans close family members. Gabriel especially loved the Thai Chicken Curry and the Beef Bourginion was excellent...nice to find a decent selection of quality home cooked dishes locally! We will definitely be back to sample more of Nick's food and strongly recommend this venue and its staff! Well done all round it was a great send...
