Fantastic service. Mediocre food. Overpriced.
The best part of our meal was the service. The two gentleman serving could not do enough- polite, not overbearing, yet did everything they could to ensure we had a pleasant experience. Unfortunately, itās not often you visit a restaurant simply for the service.
The food itself was bland- and to add insult to injury, the meal for two came to Ā£100 (3 courses, bottle of wine). I donāt begrudge paying this for a lovely meal, but this wasnāt that.
My partner and I had a sharing board starter which was lovely; unfortunately, this was the best part of the entire meal. Our mains were overpriced, under-seasoned, and honestly just very mediocre. I had the āspecialā, monkfish wrapped in parma with potatoās and veg for an extra Ā£7. The veg was half boiled, unseasoned veg (4 sliced carrots, 2 cauliflower, 2 broccoli) whacked on a plate. It was embarrassing. The Ā£25 3 pieces of bland overcooked monkfish was on a bed of spinach and lemon. I can only assume the abundance of lemon was to mask the chefs inability to cook the dish correctly.
We then moved onto the dessert, which for me was a liquor coffee to minimise the risk of having another bad course. Alas, even the coffee was rubbish.
Overall, I wouldnāt advise going. The service is truly amazing, however, this doesnāt mask a bland, uninteresting,...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreNot a lot not to like, and certainly no reasons to knock stars off. Went in on whim midweek, having not been in the predecessor for years. The interior has had some money spent on it, and it looks very cosy and elegant now. A party of 10 and a half a dozen tables occupied by couples gave a good atmosphere.
We were shown to a table without a wait, ordered drinks (a fiver for a pint, so I would say mid-price) and were given the perfect amount of time to decide on the food. Ribs were served in a thick tasty jus, sea bass fillets were plentiful and well cooked and my pasta dish was creamy and tasty. There does seem to be a heavy choice of dishes containing seafood, but there really is plenty of choice.
Service was great. Spot on with the attention level, and we were never left waiting for another drink/the bill etc. Paid about £60 for one starter, the sea bass, chicken pasta dish, and three alcoholic drinks. Not bad at all, given the taste, quality and service. One small thing, the guy behind the bar was in jeans and a t-shirt, which put him out of place compared to the waiting on staff. Minor gripe, great...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreVery underwhelming experience. Garlic bread was crispy, dry, flakey and almost inedible, the actual garlic was far too strong for my daughter, I didn't believe her at 1st and tried some myself, it was like garlic paste had been smeared in large quantities which made it overbearing for anybody(and I love garlic!). Prawn cocktail was bland, farfalle in peppercorn sauce was tasteless. Sticky toffee pudding was rock solid, spaghetti bolognese had clearly been left under a hot lamp too long and had dried out. The service was extremely average. We went when this place was Il Sole, and I'm not sure what's changed but this seems to have gone down hill quickly. Definitely won't be returning when we have the likes of Il Toro and Luciano's so close that are...
