Really disappointed. Been going for quite a long time with my partner before having our child.
Unfortunately with young babies they have a habit of crying when they either need feeding or have an issue needing attending.
Our baby started crying and we began getting the wrap ready for my partner to take him outside to calm down and myself then make him a bottle. During this process a waiter came over and said 'maybe he needs fresh air', turned to another server and both made eye roll faces at each other. He then asked a couple behind us if they were alright looking at our table to make sure our baby wasn't ruining their night. A word of advice for the future to staff members, you may need to work on finding more subtle methods of asking a parent to leave.
We've never felt so awkward since having him. If babies aren't welcome at Buraq at the risk of them making noise, there should probably be signage to say so. We decided to stop ruining the other customer's evening and left. We had ordered a set menu and had eaten the poppadoms and about half the starters.
On the way out the head waiter didn't look at me, uttered £40 to me and waved the card machine at me. Disputing the matter not feeling welcome we were told it's a set fee as the food was ready. We agreed to pay for the starters so the set meal came to apparently £20.70 for poppadoms, 2 samosas and some tikka chicken pieces.
It's incredibly disappointing to write this review as we've been to Buraq a lot over the years and every other time it's been good food and a good atmosphere but we've genuinely never felt so unwelcome since having our little boy. None of this review has been blown out of proportion or written to be hyperbolic. It is as events unfolded and exactly as events happened. I hate writing negative reviews and it's such a shame that this experience has tarred what has been a host of positives. However, changes happen in life and being a parent shouldn't disqualify us from enjoying somewhere we've eaten for a number of years.
We can only apologise profusely for spoiling any customer's evening and causing any embarrassment to staff members because our baby began to cry. Whole we were in the process of making a bottle and getting ready to put him in the wrap, it clearly wasn't fast enough to appease either the tables around us or...
Read moreA little odd. Was booked in here for a family birthday celebration. Around 17 in total with some younger children who all just ordered the chicken nuggets option. On arrival we were seated in the conservatory whilst the rest of our party arrived - we each ordered a drink and they were brought around 10 minutes in and we were all handed a menu , after around 20 mins they came back to take everyone’s food order , before we were seated at the table. A few of us ordered poppadoms and naan bread as a starter whilst others ordered individual plates and we gave what we wanted for our main course. When we were seated at the table, the chairs and spaces were very close together despite the fact the whole area in which we were seated was empty so felt silly to cram us all on two tables of 6 ! The popadoms were already out on the table spread around when we were seated so we never actually got our individual crackers or dip even though we were still charged for this / everyone just tucked in as it wasn’t clear. Around 20 mins later the starters began to arrive but it took a good 1hr 20 minutes for any main to arrive whisky the staff stood around talking on their mobiles or starting at us with empty plates. The main portions were small but edible. The naan bread was disgusting wet and soggy. Not sure it had been cooked. Was bizarre. We waited longer as no one had dessert and asked numerous times for the bill. The alcohol is expensive and the food portions small for the price. I wouldn’t personally go again. I had heard a lot of positive reviews but I felt it didn’t live up to this on...
Read moreAwful. I've never got up and walked out of a restaurant before getting my main meal but this was the worst experience I've had in a restaurant. We had a table for 2 booked for 3 weeks. Upon arrival firstly no parking available due to how busy it was. Fine, it happens on busy occasions. However when we got inside we saw an overpacked place. Like a cattle market. We waited to be acknowledged for 10 minutes at the door. Finally we were greeted. We said we had a table booked. We were then asked to sit in the waiting area at a table with 2 strangers. No social distancing in sight. No cleaning of tables, most staff not wearing masks, menus being reused, no markings on floors and the restaurant was like a cattle market. We waited a further 20 minutes for a drink to arrive which was forgotten. Finally we got our table (25 minutes late). We had our starter of onion bhaji. Fine. We then waited 40 minutes to again be even acknowledged and have our table cleared. By this time it was 9pm and we hadn't had our main yet so we took the decision to leave. Service atrocious and cleary flouting social distancing. Never again. It was our 1st ever visit. The place seems dirty and where we sat in the cormer of the room smelt like damp or cat urine. Needless to say we did not pay. Sheer greed by crambing bodies in and showing no attention to the customers. The 2 tables either side of us also complained about...
