Update: 23.07.2025- so I did it again having another go just because it’s close. And I had a little surprise food was pretty good. Well I had the kofka very tasty and plenty of nice fresh salad, the Mrs had the salt and peeper chicken, which was supposed to be salt and pepper chicken and salt and pepper chips, personally I really liked the chicken, but I could see where she was coming from when she said that it was too oily, squeeze it and oil comes out, got it. The boy had a burger he liked it but I had a bite and was glad I didn’t get the burger. The meat was just dense, if I got the burger I would have been disappointed again. So the only sour point for me was the chips, and the fries. I had a bit of both and unfortunately they were all dry. So with a basic family meal out for 3 meals and 3 drinks it’s not on the cheap side. But a bit of a better food experience than the last 5 times. None of the plates were emptied each not being able to complete the meal for one reason or another, but I have to improve on the previous 1 star because my own experience was improved which is great. Servers very good and friendly this time too. I have left my previous review below to show improvements

Bill total : £50 and change with some knocked off - thanks given

Server asked how the food was once we had finished. I said you don’t want me to feed back now, but she said she did , so I advised as above. I’m all for constructive feedback the good with the bad for improvement and never do it for discounts, but a discount was applied so thank you very much.

,Just stopped in whilst on a walk for a pint with my 2 year old. First thought was great they have a play area we can sit outside have our tea and he can play ,exactly whats needed with a child

NOT FAMILY FRIENDLY! !!!!!!

NO seats near the play area. You are supposed leave them and go round the corner... I sat on the play equipment with my son as I promised he could Play. We didn't stay to eat however when saying to staff/management that it was dissapointing that there where no seats around the play area. The response was that it is against health and safety. I told them that it wasn't it was more dangerous to leave my two year old unattended on play equiptment for which the responSe was that I could sit inside and watch out the window as it was againagainst company policy to have seaing where you could watch your child a round the play area

Not family friendly. This comes from a resident who lives within 5 minutes walking distance and won't be back until they sort it out.

What a disappointment. We didn't even get as far as the food to see if it was any good.

2023 update.

The play are and seating are now next to each other which is an improvement.

However….

We live locally and think because it’s closest to us that we will give it another go, done this about 5 times over the years and each time have been so disappointed with the food, and every time I say to my mrs we need to remember this so we don’t do it again.

Ok for a drink if a bit on the expensive side, I’m not one for going out for a drink in a food pub so just don’t.

I would avoid. Try the ship at elsewick, not too far away...

We read some of the reviews prior to going and nearly didnt but we felt some of the reviews were a little unkind. We came as a family today, we booked it over the phone for about an hour after our call because we weren't sure if you had to with COVID and it being close ish to a tourist area. When we got there we needn't because it wasn't that busy. We were greeted by a smartly dressed young man who showed us to our seats. I asked if we could have a seat near the park so we can keep an eye on the little one and he said he'd already done but I imagine changing wouldn't be an issue.

The arrival of menus and drinks was standard speed. The park was a climbing frame, slide with wood chip floor. It was fenced off with only one way in and out. The only snag is the exit door wouldn't have been openable by little ones wanting to come back in as it was rigged as a 1 way system and would need watching constantly by adults (which we should do anyway).

The food arrived in good, normal time. I had veg lasagne, wife had roast dinner (they only do this on Sundays), girls had salt and pepper chicken and youngest had pizza, peas and chips. Portions were good and quality was good. The roast dinner was actually extremely good. All the vegetables were full of flavour.

I cant remember the price but it would have been about £60 including drinks. We spoke to several staff and they were all friendly and helpful.

Good experience and we went back the next day but were gutted they only did the roast dinner on Sundays. For that they lose a star....

We stopped by for Sunday dinner, and they managed to fit us in without a reservation. The initial server was quick and friendly.

The issues started when our meals arrived and the person bringing them couldn't tell us which was the kids and which was the adults. Two of the meals also had the wrong meats. The large dinner was also missing the cauliflower cheese and the extra gravy (which we had to ask twice for).

The manager did sort out the incorrect meals and quickly brought out the correct ones. However, my single slice of beef was so dry and tough as old boots they edges were dry, curled up, and crisp. The mashed potato tasted like instant, the broccoli was so overcooked it was mushy. The positives were nicely cooked cauliflower and a very large and tasty Yorkshire pudding that was clearly homemade. The only difference between the kids' and adults' meals was a second roast potato on the adult meal.

We decided to skip desserts after the poor quality of the dinners. I must give credit to the manager who, when we came to pay, asked if everything was OK and, upon hearing how the meals were, deducted the price of my meal plus an extra 20% off the bill.

I don't know if the quality of our meals was a one-off, but we wouldn't return for food after what we ate. The pub itself, though, was friendly and the staff pretty helpful. There is also a play area outside for the kids, along with...

First time stepping foot into the Kingfisher today for Fathers day and boy it didnt disappoint. We booked a table as we have heard good things about this pub so we thought we best had to. We got shown to our table and phoebe came and took our drinks and food. The food came and by gosh it was filling, I couldn't eat my pie but my husband managed to demolish his sunday roast somehow. We also got a kids chicken chunk meal and cheese pizza meal and the kids demolished it and normally they can be fussy. 🤣 kids had pudding which was 2 scoops of icecream and also a kids brownie and icecream. When the bill came I was expecting it to be alot more than what it was and for the price we paid was fantastic. I just want to say a massive thank you to Pheobe who went above and beyond with the children, the silly things the kids loved like 'we have no corn on the cob just go to kfc and get some' it confused the kids but we thought it was a fantastic response. We will sure to be back for some more lovely food. Thank you

Nice place to go for some food, The staff were all very helpful and friendly the place gets very busy so I would advise booking in advance but we managed to get a table on Saturday for 4 people. The food was good and they had a decent selection on offer. They also have a specials board which was good. The place is decorated well and there's plenty of variety in seating available to suit any need. The menu is good it's mid range price but the food is of good quality so you do get what you pay for. The desserts do come in a little steep but again very nice and well worth paying the extra for. 4 of us at our party all had main meal and drinks just tea and soft drinks the tea cups and pots could do with being a bit bigger but the soft drinks sizes were good. 2 if us had dessert and the bill came to £77 not a cheap pub lunch but a good one 😁

Absolutely lovely meals. It was our first time here, my daughter lives near and suggested it. Wasn't dissapointed with the meals we all enjoyed them. I had the large roast dinner and one of my daughter's did, it was so tasty the beef was lovely. Very colourful plate as there was Savoy cabbage and carrot batons and the cauliflower cheese was lovely. Homemade roast potatoes and two big homemade Yorkshire puddings. My partner loved the salt and pepper chicken and chips. Would definitely go here again, lovely inside and the staff so attentive, couldn't fault it. Update April 2025 Been here a few times can't fault the food here, it's always lovely
