Raj Durbar - Indian & Nepalese Restaurant — Restaurant in Borough of Runnymede

This has been hands down M y favourite curry house for years, having said that, just recently there has been a change in the quality of the food and detail of their order taking, they never seem to have enough staff in and get swamped with panic on phone orders and leave u on hold without even asking u if ok, ordered king prawn puri tonight and they forgot to put in the puri bread, there has been a change in the recipes of some of the dishes, particularly the chicken tikka masala, it used to be creamy and slightly Smokey, now it’s just more tomato generic type and doesn’t have the same flavour that made it stand out, probably a new chef, I get that restaurants are struggling and due to the times we live in corners can be cut but this curry house was the absolute best within 10 miles and sadly it seems to be on the decline, I hope they can take the feedback and go back to their old recipes, happy if they just up the price a bit to cover the costs as it was really that good, sad to see it go downhill over the last few months. This has become our new favorite for a curry. Started having takeaways with friends and were struck by the excellent value for money and surprisingly good quality for the prices. Since then we have eaten in their restaurant and were again pleasantly surprised by the quality, quantity and value. And the venue itself is perfectly nice. Some relatives had been sniffy about it based on a past poor experience but I judge as I find and we have not been disappointed. I think one takeaway was missing one main dish out of the 6 we ordered which was annoying but it can happen to the best of places. Timing of deliveries can be a bit unreliable but so long as you allow for that you can always keep it in the oven for a short while until you're ready to eat. Curry doesn't deteriorate like many other types of food when being kept warm. I am over 60 and have eaten in the best places but nowadays I appreciate more, good value along with good quality. My family & I had been going to Raj Cuisine for as long as I can remember so were a little skeptical when we saw it had some under new ownership recently, however, we were pleasantly surprised and I feel some of the recent reviews are a little harsh!

Food was still as delicious as ever and we enjoyed some of the new additions to the menu. The restaurant was rammed on a Saturday evening, so it had a lovely atmosphere, but did mean service was a little slower - nothing you would expect from a restaurant just finding its feet though. Prices have increased but nothing higher than those in other Indian restaurants in the area and it still feels fairly priced for the quality and portion size you receive.
