Doesn’t know what it wants to be, they’ve pumped a load of cash in to making the place look and feel like a country pub, and some of the food they serve is half decent but then they have a tequila festival and play music you’d expect them to play at the student union over on the main campus...
Last night we went for dinner, could barely hear ourselves think over the music, and trying to watch the Six Nations while others seemed to be doing shots at the bar...
I’ve got no issue if it wants to be a place where people get drunk and then go out, but don’t pretend to be a country pub if you’re going to make it awful and uncomfortable for anyone expecting a country pub when they go inside...
Also how can it be justified to charge £9.45 for halloumi and chips, yet charge £5.95 for a mushroom and halloumi burger? - £3.50 extra for two more bits of halloumi, and you lose the mushroom, the bub and the coleslaw... Hope there was some gold leaf in that...
Read moreTried the full English breakfast for the first time today, for the positives they had unlimited tea and coffee, a bit like the hotels in a sense of you had to fill it urself using hot water from the thermos, but didn’t mind that quite enjoyed my tea. Having cold eggs, cold beans, cold uncooked doughy bread, cold bacon, cold hash browns wasn’t the best experience. I had to ask for the spoonful of beans to be reheated and when they came back they were still cold? Made me think they just breathed on it instead of chucking them in the microwave. Didn’t really understand that. At the end of the day, for 7.50 I would rather get two Tesco...
Read moreThe Crown is a student pub as it mainly caters to college students in Egham. Being the college break, it was quite empty when we went. I had called in to check on #gluten-free options, which I was told they had. When we went there, though, there wasn't anything gluten-free other than a pizza, though it was the best Vegan Gluten Free Pizza I had in ages! Frank (I think that was his name) took great care to check every ingredient was #Gluten Free and put on fresh gloves to make it. The drinks and food were reasonably priced, and the pizza was really tasty. I'll probably go back for the pizza and the care taken to make it. I'm Gluten Intolerant and didn't have any issue...
