Hard to rate Michael's as the kebabs are very good (apart from the lamb shish which is far too chewy) and you certainly get your money's worth.
However the currys are not nice at all, they don't taste anything like the real thing and seem to be made by someone who has never sampled proper curry. The sauces are sweet and every curry tastes the same, more like they have poured a jar of syrup in the base sauce instead of using actual spices.
It is strange as it has a very good reputation as a curry house yet every time I have eaten there they have tasted like this.
Burgers and pizzas are adequate from the takeaway menu, although the kebabs and naans are where this restaurant excels. Curry from the takeaway is again disappointing, sickly sweet and not at all like real curry.
To be fair the kebab side of Michaels is a 4 or 5 star experience, the curry side is a definite 1 star and is easily the worst curry I have ever had. Basically if you think Michaels is the best curry you have tasted then by definition you do not like curry.
Knocked this down to one star since I found out that the takeaway food is now made in an industrial unit on the nearby Red Marsh Industrial Estate, the prices have also gone up and delivery remains at a ridiculous £2.50. I think Michaels no longer offers value for money and is a pretty lame...
Read moreUPDATE The takeaway was apparently closed when we were trying to order for refurbishment. There was no mention of this on the website or when you rang up, so I don't feel this is a great excuse, especially given that they have a pre recorded message when you ring up anyway so they have the capacity to do this.
Tried to order online but the system they use isn't good at all. You're meant to receive an email confirming your order, which obviously never came. Tried to ring them up as this it what it says to do should you not receive an email confirmation, must have tried ringing a least 20 times over the course of an hour with no response. The problem was we couldn't order from elsewhere in case the order was actually on its way. All in all a terrible system which is a shame because the food is usually very good. Cannot recommend ordering online until the system is either updated or they move to a platform such as just eat like every...
Read moreBeen here many times had lovely meals and celebrations, so I thought I would return for my husband's birthday. There was three of us in the party and I booked a table for 17:30. Our food this time was not as good as it had been in the past, my biryani, with King Prawns, was flavourless, our samosas for starters were very nice and hot. My son chose pizza and he thoroughly enjoyed, although my husband's chicken Rogan josh was dry. The garlic naan lacked garlic and appeared to have herb butter spread on it! On leaving I was asked if we had enjoyed, and I thought it was not the time or place in an exceptional busy restaurant, who asked for masks to be warn, to mention my concerns. Our party was very unhappy with the lack of COVID-19 distance left between parties and then left waiting almost 30 minutes to receive our bill and take away. I fully understood Michael's was busy but surely social distancing...
