A dreadful experience and my advice - don't go if you don't want dogs running around everywhere and jumping onto your table! If you want to sit in a kennel, go ahead!||We sat outside on a very sunny day to enjoy meeting friends we haven't seen for a long time. We are local to the pub and stopped going a while ago due to the dogs of customers wandering around everywhere, around your legs and under your table, and the cacophony of dogs barking and fighting all the time whilst trying to enjoy a "quiet" (not!) drink! It hasn't changed and if anything, is worse than ever!||We then went inside to sit at one of the high tables. Same dogs left to wander, annoy people and then randomly jump up onto windowsills next to where we were sitting inside, then onto the table and sniffing our drinks! This happened several times and became intolerable. We nicely asked the owners to control their dog and stop if from jumping onto our table. We were met with sarcasm and angry faces.||For the record, none of us is a dog-hater; however we don't like dogs we don't know, and given the number of random attacks recently, one never knows which way a dog will turn.||We nicely told a member of staff that it wasn't acceptable. Whilst pleasant, she said the landlord would never agree to a dog ban. I hadn't asked for a ban, just that dogs are under control - which they were certainly not! Even when on a lead, they were the extendable kind and they still wandered between tables and other customers' tables. There must have been 40+ dogs! Noisy!||On one of our visits a while ago, two members of staff were merrily vaping behind the bar whilst serving drinks - in full view of customers - not a great look!||So, if you don't want dog snot in your drink, or want a bit of quiet time with friends/family, don't go here. We won't be going again!! Disgusting and certainly unhygienic if eating anywhere inside or outside with dogs (not your own) jumping onto your table! Certainly wouldn't eat there. A right old...
Read moreWe were here for a family wedding and booked in for two nights. We arrived late afternoon and were shown to our room (called Botany) via a back staircase which was in urgent need of a vacuum cleaner. Halfway up there was an emergency door leading to the back yard of the pub which was wide open letting cold air in. At the top of the staircase was an office door which was wide open revealing what can only be described as chaos. On entering the room things were much cleaner and the room was quite acceptable although a little dark with all the old furnishings. The bathroom was well fitted and very bright with a bath and walk-in shower. We were then told that the only exit at night after closing time was via the back door as the pub was locked and unmanned which we found rather disconcerting as did other guests in the next room. We had arranged a meal in the pub with family that evening and everything was perfect, food, service and restaurant were very good, so that gave us a good feeling for the breakfast offering. Unfortunately, that was not the case. Breakfast is extremely poor, held in a tiny room upstairs where there are three very small tables and a kitchen set-up. You serve yourself with everything except a pre-ordered hot breakfast at your designated time, which was a big disappointment with sausages that tasted off and bacon that was overcooked and hard. All toast and teas/coffees were self-serve. Certainly not the experience that was expected given the room rate of £120 per night! Surely it would be much better served in the restaurant?? We were vastly disappointed and declined breakfast the next morning leaving early. It must be said staff were all very polite and helpful, perhaps management need to take a closer look at their offering. The website says nothing about the strange breakfast arrangements or the fact that the establishment is unmanned at night. We will not...
Read moreVery Disappointing, In the past we have always enjoyed our get together with friends at the Busfield but sadly not tonight. We waited ages to be served at the bar when we arrived, we ordered our meals which we have thoroughly enjoyed in the past but tonight the Gammon was very salty and the Steak pie portions were shocking, my partner said he could have got a portion of chips and gravy at the chippy for less than 3 pounds and he paid £12 for what he felt was no different at the Busfield. The usual staff/ management were sadly missing. We ordered jam roll Poly and custard ! We got Luke warm custard on a piece of suet pudding with a lump of jam on the top.... very very disappointing. I love going out for a meal with friends and if food/service is good I say it's good , as I have done so on Trip Advisor in the past when we have visited The Busfield Arms. I also will pass my criticism on , Good or Bad .... it's not " MOANING OR COMPLAINING " Hopefully someone will read this and maybe understand why there was lot of empty table in the Busfield tonight. Saturday nights where heaving in the past........
