So Northern Kitchen is winning my award for most surprising find in years!
I'm rarely ever in Bradford, and had to spend a couple of hours waiting between appointments in the Great Horton area, which is not the easiest district to find welcoming, comfortable and accessible places for a relaxed coffee and a bite of breakfast.
So difficult, in fact, that it took a good search on GoogleMaps to look for something suitable and honestly - a commercial estate off the M606 was the last place I expected to find an establishment of this remarkable quality.
So I find myself surprised to say this, but anyone who has Bradford central and south as a regular stop-point really needs to have Northern Kitchen hard coded into their subconscious.
Utterly brilliant in every way, although easy to miss, from the outside it looks like a tiny corner of a large industrial unit with parking tucked away behind and to the side. The tasteful construction of an al fresco staging hints at the ambitions and attention to detail at work here, and once inside the generic-looking building, the environment totally changes into a spacious, comfortable modern lounge.
Counter staff, servers and cooks alike are responsive, Bradfordian and chatty - quick to recommend menu items and fast to serve!
A very good menu, balancing traditional favourites with unique takes of their own and I chose an excellent decaf latte which was uncommonly smooth and tasty, along with the house take on steak and eggs, absolutely flavourful and dressed with a tasty and not-too-spicy salsa. Extremely satisfying and a great lo-carb option.
Honestly... don't just drive by this place and if you're on the way through on a journey down the motorway and in need of refreshment on route... don't take your money to the usual grim service stations... This place - if they're open - has got to be your "must stop" flag...
Absolutely well...
Read moreWhat a gem of a fund this was - passed it a number of times on the Euroway thinking it was a kitchen supplier only to find it was a wonderful local restaurant. The menu provides a good selection of breakfast, brunch and lunch fare and a cut above the usual breakfast bar offering. The staff are friendly, accommodating and everything offered can by adapted to be Gluten free. They serve a limited but pleasant range of beers, wines and spirits. The coffee was excellent and I was so impressed with the offering, i returned soon after for Sunday lunch! The roasts beef was tender and just melted in the mouth , the yorkshire puddings were HUGE and perfectly cooked, the marmite roasties device and it all came with plenty of vegetables. There was a choice of three deserts - all with home made ice cream. For those with huge appetites- they do the biggest poshest doughnuts and put a certain fast food chain to shame! Highly recommended. Sunday lunch would be wise to book ahead but anyone near the M606 needs to pull off and give this a go. Plenty of parking and an outside seating area appears to be coming soon. Plenty of seating upstairs and down, a baby changing area is available and a 5 star hygiene rating. They also cater for customers of UberEats...
Read moreMy first visit to Northern kitchen for my birthday last week was not a good one unfortunately. Was recommended by a friend and family member who dines there often ,so was excited to go for lunch. My friend ordered the BLT and I the Northern full breakfast. What seemed to be a lovely experience and waiting staff very attentive turned into a nightmare experience. On eating her BLT my friend ended up eating what was a piece of soil/ clay which was in the salad. This was returned and a replacement offered woth apologies. The second replacement ( BLT) was not so good either, on tucking into her second bite my friend pulled a long hair from the sandwich. This then literally put me off my own food. The waitress apologised profusely. When we went to pay obviously my friend didn’t have to pay which is fair enough however I think after two major finds in food I should not have had to pay, I believe that the chef/ manager should have come to apologise instead of the waitresses. I will not be returning to Northern Kitchen again nor will I be recommending it to others. Should have...
