Visited here for the first time for dinner tonight and was sadly quite disappointed overall.
Good Points: The atmosphere was lovely, we had a nice table at the back and was quiet and spacious. The menu variety is good and gluten free options marked on the menu are good too. My goan seafood curry was quite nice. My dad and partner really enjoyed their Sunday roasts - they'd rate it a 4 out of 5.
Bad Points: Took a while to get the attention of someone to take our order during a quiet service.
Weren't asked if there were any allergies or dietary requirements.
At the time of finally ordering, we had to ask if there were specials, which we had a "yes" then we had to proceed to ask what they were.....we should have been given these as we were sat down and given menus.
I specifically requested seafood curry with the gluten free option and it was repeated back to me. It came out with a normal naan bread, so I had to ask if it was gluten free (in case to my amazement it came with a GF naan) and it wasn't, so my food was taken back as my dad and partner started eating their Sunday roasts for a couple of minutes. It came back out without the naan bread, so I had to pay the same amount as a normal curry but without the bread which is quite annoying. Luckily I don't suffer from cross contamination, otherwise I'd be asking if they just removed the naan bread when it touched other items on the plate, as that's a serious cross contamination issue.
No checkbacks.
We waited 15 minutes for someone to come and clear our plates and ask about desserts etc. Again, it was a quiet service, and the waitress came and cleared the table behind us of glasses (not plates) and didn't attend to us. At this point we were pretty annoyed and decided to pay at the bar and leave.
When we asked for the discretionary service to be taken off and actually said "we were quite disappointed", none of the 3 staff who heard said a word or asked any questions. We just paid and left.
My dad and partner are particularly disappointed about the service because they've just moved to the area and this is their new local. We hope this is just an anomaly. But for the price we paid for the dinner, we definitely expected better service.
If you're gluten intolerant, PLEASE ask specific questions about the food to avoid cross contamination as I feel more training is...
Read moreThere was a beer festival on, so alot of people in the entrance. On reflection it might have been a good idea to move diners down the stairs, so the dining experience was more pleasant rather than being in a rugby scrum! The specials should be on a typed menu, as with the noise and foreign accent of the waiter it was impossible to determine what they were. The food was amazing. I had slow cooked lamb which was a large joint and delicious. Unfortunately not enough of the fantastic gravy. Not one of the four waiters ( yes four!) who dealt with us during the visit came back to ask if the meal was ok. So I had to finish off the mash plain. The waitress brought my coffee on its own without my desert chocolates but was happy to correct this. My daughter was brought the wrong desert (chocolate sponge with sticky toffee sauce and ice cream, rather than chocolate fondante and raspberry's) and then the waiter argued that it was the correct one! For what end I do not know! This drew attention to my daughter who is quite shy and gets embarrassed easily ( so I wasn't best pleased but kept my mouth shut). The dish was not taken away but the different items brought out, so she had a mish mashed desert. I guess it would have taken time, so my daughter would have eaten alone. The whole bill was £103 pounds ( no discount offered or expected but would have been nice). I enjoyed the food but not the experience, if honest. My recommendations are:- Written specials Fewer staff serving you ( the right arm didn't know what the left arm was doing). Correct ordering Check on meal, maybe gravy in a jug? Coffee with deserts, or at least ask If function on in church hall maybe extend bar area and shut those tables. Otherwise I loved the pub, food was great, and generally the staff were nice. I would go back, maybe on a quieter night, but that's not the pubs fault of course. Sorry if this offends but...
Read moreOn arrival we were greeted with friendly smiles from the waitress who showed us to our table. 1st nice touch was that she offered a bowl of water for our dog.
Our waiter Bogdan was such a joy. 2nd nice touch, even though this was our 1st visited to The Fleece, Bogdan treated us like regulars and signposted us to the specials board and took our drinks order prompty . His attention to a great customer experience was a credit to him.
The food arrived arrived promptly and was I have to say the best Sunday lunch we have had outside my our own kitchen. Excellent home cooked food with generous portions and extra gravy offered ( 3rd nice touch)
4rd nice touch Bodgan was discretly attentive thoughout our visit . He guided us though his meal choice recommendations but no pushy sales he just wanted use to have the best experience possible.
Nice touch number 5, I ordered a Lemonchello to end my meal. Bodgan took time to ask how I liked it served and explained that you serve a Yorkshire Lemonchello as at The Fleece you prefer to support local small businesses. Nice touch number 6 Bodgan provided dog treats for our dog and even took time to fuss over him too. Final nice touch number 7, when we requested our bill Bogdan told us " just so you are aware a dicretional service charge is included in the bill" A charge that we were more than happy to pay for a fabulous dinning experience . Not all places point this out and I have often only realised on checking the bill at home that I gave tipped twice, so thank you for that Bogdan. People are often quick to complain when things sometimes go wrong BUT forget to feedback when EVERYTHING goes right and everything was so very right today, thank you to all The Fleece Team you are doing a...
