My partner and I booked a meal last Friday evening, the restaurant was not busy (5 other diners when we arrived) Our waitress ( young, dark haired) was pleasant and friendly. I ordered haddock for a main course. Meal arrived minus the 'crushed peas', I informed the waitress, she returned to the kitchen, promptly retrieving peas. The meal was tasty and well cooked but unfortunately I found a small piece of wire in my food. This could have been very dangerous had I swallowed it. When the waitress collected the plates I discreetly asked that she would let the chef know about the wire. The waitress apologised. I decided to console myself with white choc roulade with cream for dessert. Dessert arrived minus the cream! My partner did not want me to make a fuss and 'bother' the waitress, so I didn't. I noticed our waitress went off shift and we asked another member of staff for the bill (young woman, blonde hair) We received the bill in full. I asked whether there was any feedback from the chef re the wire incident, she looked shocked and asked if we'd informed our waitress. We confirmed that we had, she disappeared and returned with an amended bill and apologies. My main concern is the fact that there were 3 main elements to my main course and 1 was missing, there were 2 elements to my dessert and 1 was missing, there appeared to be no communication between staff. It is such a shame that the restaurant was not on top of their game on this occasion, it is so important in this current climate. To add insult to injury I sent a Facebook message last Monday and I'm still awaiting a reply. I have therefore decided to make a...
Read moreFirst pub meal inside a pub in ages (for obvious reasons). Decent choice of ales & lagers and naturally I started with a Landlord because "you can take the lad out of Keighley..." then I had a Leeds Pale and then a Peroni. Alcohol free options we were aware of were Becks Blue and Heineken 0.0 which was useful as the Mrs was driving.
The food menu is fairly limited but believe me this is a GOOD thing!! The starters (Salt & Pepper chicken breast for me, Bruscetta for Mrs) were fantastic and of a decent size which had I known beforehand there is no WAY I would have ordered the Large version of the main!!
I opted for Chilli chips, which comes with salsa and sour cream. What arrived was basically a fruit bowl filled to the brim!! It was so vast it even attracted comments from a neighbouring table asking "How many more people are coming!?"
It was absolutely amazing and to my shame it defeated me! In a world of diminishing portions and too much choice The Greyhound bucks the trend in a positive way. Next time I'll order the normal portion haha.
The pub itself is well presented and has lots of character, lovely traditional style with nice outdoor seating too overlooking the cricket pitch.
The only niggle (and it is minor and probably nothing to most people) is the choice of music inside. 100% this is a personal taste thing but to me it was completely out of character with the pub's traditional style and feel. But then I am very particular about music so take it leave what I have to say about that haha.
Overall The Greyhound is a brilliant pub with excellent food and we...
Read moreVisited for first time on Sat 14 May 2022 at 12.15pm after passing many times over the years. Very pleased with the olde worlde decor which is how we imagined it to be. However, what we did not imagine is to be âservedâ by a mumbling youth with hugely bleached hair looking very inappropriate for the setting and then our order to be taken by another mumbling youth with piercings all over his face and scruffy clothing looking like he had just left a dirty nightclub. To add insult to injury the âmusicâ was an absolute disgrace- blasting out hard, screaming rock complete with lyrics including âstâ and âfk youâ. I was completely disgusted and offended by this so I cannot imagine how the couple with children aged about 5 and 7 must have felt subjecting their family to this disgusting language. There did not appear to be anybody of a suitable age and experience behind the bar and it seemed that these youths had selected their âfavourite musicâ to listen to as it was certainly not in keeping with the ambience or what one would expect for such a lovely village pub. On top of all this the food was quite horrible and nothing like the photos online- dry, overcooked chips that were like crisps; tasteless chicken Goujons (nice batter though) and over microwaved peas. We get the impression that this place has been taken over and standards have dropped massively and, in the case of these problems listed, seem to have disappeared completely. What a shame as we had high hopes when we went in after all the years of passing by. I look forward to your thoughtful comments...
