They say 'better late than never'; the Rose of India have clearly taken this to heart. When I phoned up this evening hoping for a delicious, hot curry to be delivered within a reasonable timeframe, I didn't realise that a veritable oddysey lay ahead...
I was initially advised that my food would arrive 70 minutes after ordering (already a lengthy wait). However, I was happy to wait, knowing that a 4.4 star rated meal would be in store. Unfortunately, it was not to be.
70 minutes came and went, yet there was no knock on the door, only the rumbling of mine and my family's empty stomachs to comfort us. I phoned up 2, 3, 4 times, each call met with flagrant lies promising imminent arrival, discounts and free beers. The restaurant was clearly struggling with a busy Saturday night and a little honesty would've been appreciated - they were rated 4.4 stars, after all, so it would've been worth the wait.
Eventually, after a whopping 2 hours and 15 minutes, a whole 135 minutes/8100 seconds (the equivalent runtime of 2020 oscar-winning film Parasite), we saw the glorious shine of a deliveryman's headlights on the driveway, braving the wintery weather befitting the coldest August bank holiday on record. The promised discount did materialise, however the beers did not (possibly due to the fact they were promised only after the driver had set off on his merry way).
The curry itself? Honestly, frustratingly, mostly lovely; a curiously liquidised saag panneer and distinct lack of king prawns in the king prawn korma aside. Of course, we were so utterly ravenous, it could've been chicken nuggets in a jar of sharwood's sauce and we'd have been happy.
All in all, a very good curry, but terrible customer service, and avoid the delivery if you wish your food to arrive before...
Read moreI reluctantly came in for a chicken korma and had a delivery at the last minute due to parking issues.
On arriving home the delivery man delivered a coldish container that was not sealed properly and had spill marks all down the side. It appears that the delivery man already knew this as he was extremely keen to hand me the bag as quick as possible before dissappearing immediatly at 100 mph.
After opening the container, I was shocked to find what seemed to be a coldish yellowy liquid that filled a quarter of the container and seemed to be a slimy cup full of cooking oil. I also counted 5 pieces of square diced chicken that resembled blocks of sugar cubes and was clearly prepackaged processed chicken bought in bulk from cheap suppliers.
Coldish curry mostly in watery cooking oil is an immediate put you off your food thought and I would not recommend eating from a place like this, at least for home deliveries which seem to get next to no thought and consideration into the food making.
This explains why the delivery persons seem rushed to quickly dash off before you can complain.
I would frankly not have eaten this food if it was offered to me for free and was very happy to pour what seemed like yellow cooking oil into my big black kitchen bin. I would go as far to say that having food of this quality delivered is a health and safety risk.
I have put it down to experience and would not eat from here again due to...
Read moreFeel so awful for writing this review as I have had a great experience years ago. I booked a large family meal for my birthday on the 22/12/2021. On the phone I booked for 8 people & a high chair. When we arrived we all sat down. After waiting around for a while I asked for a high chair for my 7 month old son to be told that they did not have any. (Not that they were all being used) that they did not have what’s so ever. I was given no apology. We had already ordered our food by then and I had two smaller children who were very hungry. I spent 99% of my time holding my son standing as given his age sitting on my lap he wanted (to pull on glasses, places etc). I could not enjoy my food. We did not order any extras or desserts as we were very uncomfortable and just wanted to go home. Not somewhere I will be going back to. We also felt extremely uncomfortable by one of the waiters. If you have children especially under the age of 1-2 years this isn’t the...
