We used to love coming to the rising sun for a roast dinner but it has really gone down hill.
The penultimate visit when we came the service was slow, they had almost run out of roasts, only had chicken left. Then when the roast arrived as my husband was eating it he bit in to a small shard of glass. We told the manager very discreetly as to not cause a fuss and gave him the piece of glass he came back and advised that it doesn't look like any glass they have in the kitchen... I found this a slightly odd thing to say as I'm not sure where else he was suggesting it could have come from. He offered to take that meal off the bill which was fine. We put it down to bad luck as had never had any issues before. When it came to paying it hadn't been removed from the bill so we had to remind the waiting staff which I found embarrassing but hey ho just one of those things.
We decided to give it another go and booked again for a table of 6 on a Sunday. When we arrived we were seated and after 25 minutes of being ignored at our table we had to ask to if we could order some drinks, eventually they took our order, 15 minutes later no drinks had arrived, no food order had been taken and then a waitress came and said sorry we've run out of roasts. These things happen I guess however the real annoyance here was that tables seated after us were sat down eating their roast dinners already, so if our table hadn't been ignored they couldve fulfilled our order. It felt as if they had no interest in our custom. An hour after we had arrived we then had to leave having not had any food or drink arrive, hugely frustrating given we had small children with us and had prebooked. The restaurant was actually the quietest I had seen in it in a long time and plenty of staff were working so I still am confused as to why the service was so slow and they had run out of dinners!
A real shame as this place was an absolute family favourite but we will have to find elsewhere after being stung twice now with...

Moored up with a canoe, excited having had great recommendations. Decent menu, nice looking pub, lots of seating. Ordered at the bar in a socially distant fashion and awaited to pay - not expecting a hefty bill, considering both items on the menu were £10 plus the costs of the drinks (Eat out to help out scheme in place) It's worth noting that there were two menus displayed - we read from the one that appeared to be what we thought was a specials menu (written on the blackboard outside) Specifically asked for two "Rising sun" burgers, one half of ale, one half of cider and a lemonade, £34 was the total. - sound strange? Had my husband go back in to question it, only to be told that the menu we must have read from was seemingly the "Takeaway menu" yet we stated that we would be eating in (also the "Rising sun" burgers aren't named on the regular menu, there is a similar option by another name) the EOTHO scheme price wasn't applied to our bill either. We were told that we should've asked at the time of ordering to have the pricing applied. Isn't it an automated process if you're opted into the scheme??! Nor did the blackboard state that it was a "Takeaway menu" all facts that my husband pointed out. Anyway, after some debate we were refunded £10, still doesnt sound like a 50% off bill (£18 not including drinks) Also ended up not drinking the lemonade either, as it quite clearly displayed a shade of red lipstick from a previous customer. Decided to leave at that point. Forced to use dirty public toilets between the two pubs also, instead of the toilets in the establishment. Won't be returning, amateur con-artists....
Read moreVery disappointing. Went here after a local walk as it’s in a great location with a beer garden by the side of the broads. Sadly the service was very poor right from the start. Initially we sat down and had to request menus after nobody handed them out after 15 minutes. We waited another 15 minutes but nobody took our order so we did everything to try and attract the waiters attention. I ended up getting up and waving at him only to be told they were pausing kitchen orders because the chefs were overloaded. By which we point we already had drinks so agreed to wait 30 minutes before he’d put in the order. Well at that point the food did actually arrive quicker than we’d been anticipating and it was very good. Tasty and good portions.
We then waited and waited… and waited but the server refused to make any kind of eye contact. We finally managed to get his attention on his way past and asked for the desert menu. We then waited for a very long period eventually again having to catch him on his way past and ask if he could take our order, only to be told he’ll be right back. We watched as he slowly dithered about doing anything but come back to take our order. 20 minutes later we’d had enough and tried to do everything to catch his attention and ask for the bill. Even that was impossible so we ended up asking a kitchen porter who was apologetic and got the bill himself.
Absolutely shocking service and such a shame as it’s a lovely pub in a great location but the service (or at least the one male server who was responsible for the outside tables) did a terrible job, we certainly...
