A group of us came here for an impromptu visit after a groomsmen suit fitting in London. I have never been here before but have passed it many times when visiting my grandparents who used to live around the corner.
All food and drink was ordered through the McMullens app which was good! It was nice and easy to use and navigate and had options to pay by card and Google Pay. I didn't have to create an account either!
I went for The Mixed Grill and upgraded to chicken gravy scratching loaded fries with a side of onion rings, and to be honest it was absolutely banging! I didn't eat the tomato or peas though as I don't do either of them, but I couldn't see an option to remove them whilst ordering.
The service was really good from a red haired girl who was very polite, and another gent who explained to us about the massive Yorkshire Pud challenge thing they have going on there. Amazing work from them two. Another chap was quite confrontational to one person in our group regarding an incorrect drinks order and went on to explain how he'd worked there for however many years and how he knew how to do his job etc. Now I understand sometimes you need to prove your knowledge and experience, but when you've been served a drink a certain way 3 or 4 times, and then the last time you order it it comes out differently, we as customers don't really need to hear your justification nor that you'd need to reprimand a member of staff. Just an apology will do and a swift correction will do fine, regardless of who was at fault or if there would be any additional charges. Just for clarity; I have worked in customer facing jobs for 20+ years, so I've had my fair experience in customer service and how you deal with awkward situations.
As for the atmosphere, it's a bit different to the usual country pubs we regularly visit further north in Hertfordshire, groups of roudy blokes, getting the odd stare here and there etc, I wouldn't say that it's entirely a great place to bring young family or the elderly. (or not on days like today at least) Obviously being a pub you can't pick your customers, but it wasn't the greatest atmosphere to be in.
Regardless, I/we will 100% be returning to this pub as the food was great and most of the staff were great. I'd highly recommend it to anyone...
Read moreWOW!!!!! We made our way to The Crown first of all as we were near Lee Valley Boats. The young staff didn't have a clue about seating, menu etc. Then they said they had no pies (these were pot pies) and it will be a half hour wait. You also have to go down the most ridiculous road to get to it!!! We left and googled nearby pubs, one you had to book and the 2nd was the Bulls Head. So we decided to go there. It even looked nice on arrival as it was a lovely day. Bright red huge umbrellas and music. It was busy so we guessed it was popular. Friendly staff right from the moment we walked in. We found a shady spot outside and helped ourselves to cutlery and condiments. The menu is fabulous and they have proper pies which available. We decided to have warm breads with balsamic vinegar and oil which was very good. We ordered the steak and ale pie which came with mash, peas and gravy. It came served in warm plates and was piping hot. It was delicious and we cleared our plates! My husband then had the sticky toffee pudding even though we were stuffed! We're just so greedy and love food!!!! The pudding was the best we had tasted even my daughter wished she had ordered it. She had the devil chocolate cake with chocolate sauce which was gooey and lovely. I had raspberry cheesecake with limoncello icecream. It was soooooo good. The three of us had one drink and they brought out a carafe of iced water which I love. The whole lot came to £60 which was very good value for the food, the setting and the lovely staff. Highly recommended. If you're in the area you must try it....
Read moreArrived on time and taken to a table very much out of the way round the corner at the back right under the air con, we asked for air con to be turned of as freezing however was told it was a air vent not air con , dont know why we were seated there as there were loads of tables empty in the main dining room not a good start. Received drinks and starter in a quite timely manner then everything got worse asked 3 times where our meals were as now had been waiting almost a hour since we had our starter when they eventually arrived with apologies and told our last drinks order was on the house. My sons order was incorrect so taken way to get right he waited another 10mins ,my wife and i both ordered chicken and steak combo medium cooked, the chicken was just warm and dry as had been overcooked and both our steaks were rare in all a terrible meal the manager aplogised and did not charge for both our meals but this meal was supposed to be a birthday celebration. I dont know what's going on lately here but this is not the first time with long time waiting for food and also my friend had to return her steak on a previous visit . we have also noticed that menu has not changed for month's. It seems when they are busy they cant cope .Need a better chef. So went...
