I was upset and distressed with the way I was treated on Wednesday 2/04/25, because I found a hair in my food! I took a mouthful of food, and could feel a hair in my mouth, my daughter saw me pull out the hair and I placed it on a napkin. We looked at it and realised straight away it wasnât one of ours! I then took the hair on the napkin to the bar to show the barmaid, whose name I believe was Courtney. She looked at it, took it from me and walked off, rudely without saying a word to me! No apology! She didnât come back to me and so I sat down and as I was starving, and I hadnât been offered a replacement meal, I carried on eating. The next thing, the cook came out and said abruptly to me, across the pub in front of other customers, âSorry about the hair in your food, but it wasnât mine!â I looked at him in disbelief, and said, âWell itâs certainly not ours.â He then said, again very abruptly, âIâm not arguing about whose hair it is, itâs not mine! Youâll get a refund for your meal.â The only one arguing was him! The humiliation and embarrassment I felt was quite upsetting! It was like I was the perpetrator and not the victim! He went back into the kitchen, and I sat in disbelief at how he had clearly attacked me! It ruined my evening! Before we left, I waited for the barmaid to approach me regarding the refund. However, she made no attempt to approach me, nor did she go back behind the bar. She clearly did not want me to have a refund; she had made that very obvious. So I went up to the bar, where the really nice and friendly young man, who had spoken to us earlier, was standing, and I spoke to him saying that I had been told I was receiving a refund for my meal as I had a hair in my food. He said that he believed it was Courtney dealing with it. She had obviously been hovering to see what Iâd do, as she suddenly appeared behind me and said, âWhat is it?â I said I need a refund for my meal. Again without saying a word, she went to the till and started to process the refund. She then added, âIt wasnât the cookâs hair.â I said well it wasnât ours and that someone else must work in the kitchen. She said only the cook, and then added, last minute, that the pot washer also works in there. I said well it must be the pot washerâs, as it wasnât one of our hairs. She was so rude and abrupt, looking at me as if I had done something wrong! I asked her if she would like to find a hair in her meal? She answered, again very abruptly, âNo, but you didnât have to eat it, we would have replaced it!â What! So why didnât say this to me when she walked away with the hair on a napkin? She never spoke a word to me, and she didnât come back to me about it either, so to say they would have replaced it was not communicated to me at all! I didnât even know where she had taken the hair until the cook came out into the pub to loudly tell me it wasnât one of his hairs! Can you believe this? I canât! Iâm still in disbelief! Not about the hair, as these things happen, but the way I was treated was unforgivable! I was humiliated, victimised and made to feel embarrassed in front of other customers who were watching and listening. I do believe that both the cook and the barmaid, thought it was my hair, and that the way they behaved showed that they thought it was my hair! I was made to feel like it was my hair and that I had put it there to get a refund! Come on! I only had a lighter meal for âsmaller appetites and kidsâ, which didnât cost much, and we did like going there as only a 10-minute walk from my house. I will never return to that pub again and did not deserve to be treated like that! I had paid to eat there and because I found a hair in my food, and took it to the barmaid to show her, I was made to feel like I had committed a crime! Iâm still feeling upset by it! We cannot live in a society where we are told to âput up and shut up!â which is exactly how the staff at the White Lion operate! I would like the tenant of this Greene King-owned pub to contact me...
Read moreWent to The White Lion public house in Bramcote Notts today for a family lunch, we had booked for 6 to eat inside the pub but at the last minute, another member of the family said that they could join us if that was ok, phoned to alter the number of diners and although we now exceeded the legal number that could sit inside on one table, the management and staff went out of their way to provide a table for 7 in the garden marquee, the service was very good and efficient, drinks arrived and time was allowed to choose from an excellent luncheon menu which catered for all tastes and several dietary irregularities, one of our party is celiac and like the rest of us, really enjoyed the food provided, everything was cooked to perfection and presented very attentively, so to sum up - lovely surroundings, well kept cellar, wonderful variety of food, reasonably priced and well worth a visit, like us, I am sure you will return, thank you The White Lion, also well named as...
Read moreI visited The White Lion whilst on a walk on Motherâs Day. We did intend to only have a drink and move on, however it turned out to be a beautifully sunny day so we sat outside in the beer garden. We were so comfy that we decided to order some food. I was initially turned down as it was Mothers Day & we hadnât pre-booked a table. Fair enough I thought and went back outside to finish my drink. What happened next made my day. Max turned up at our table with a menu and explained that we may be able to order some food. We just ordered 2 starters which were very tasty. This act of hospitality kindness meant the world to me. Max had overheard me trying to order food at the bar and went above & beyond to accommodate us. This kind of service is rarely witnessed these days and it was lovely to see. Max made a beautiful day into something very special. Thank...
