We took our 7 year old whose birthday it is today, here tonight as we've been previously and all enjoyed it. After paying £42 for our food after taking around 15 minutes with only one person waiting in front. I advised of certain items I didn't want on a meal beans and tomatoes, the order taker looked to be tapping this in on her screen, I asked can I possibly have more of something else for not having those?...I got ignored as she moved my order on. I then asked about ordering takeout cake, for me to pay then she'll bring it to us when we were about to leave, I've been given a card in the past, then it's just been brought over....she bagged it up and put it on the counter, I said I don't want it now, we're eating! she said it will be ok...I said no, she looked put out about this and said right I'll look after it and placed it under the counter...I had to ask that she refrigerated it. The meals arrive, bangers, mash, peas all eaten happy 5 year old. Childrens cheese and tomato pizza, chips and peas, soggy, sweet, mushy pizza. All day breakfast... Arrived with beans. The last meal....lasagne, mush not browned off enough, undercooked chips, burnt garlic bread...a naff side salad that only consists of dry green leaves, no tomato... Nothing else, I did advise for no dressing thankyou but you can't call that a salad! At one point another table were bring given their meals, their table hadn't been set and many more hadn't, which was a bit strange as I wouldn't consider it to be as busy in the past...the server went off for salt which I past to the table in the meantime as there weren't many about. The order taker came over to ask if our meals were OK as soon as we got them...advised not started yet and the breakfast shouldn't have been should it, you took the order? She apologised. We weren't given the icecream slips so that was a pain...asked for strawberry icecream, given frozen yoghurt....oh my, get us out of this place! It used to be good here, I won't be back for quite a while if ever. Yes we could've taken it up in the restaurant but it was my daughters 7th birthday, it was getting late... Very disappointed. The happy picture is of the birthday girl oblivious that her Mummy and Daddy just know this should be far better!...the picture also shows how quiet it was, sunny day but quiet outside too.

We were a large party of 9, 5 adults and 4 children and pre booked a week in advance. Upon arriving to the restaurant we were taken to our table in the family dining. There was no preparation for our arrival aside from a couple of laminated ‘reserved’ signs. We had to push tables together to create space for us to actually sit as a group, there was one cutlery holder for the two tables which held 1 napkin, 3 knives and 4 forks. Nobody checked on the table to see if we were missing anything leading to me needing to approach a staff member who had a bit of a hard time figuring out how to do the math to add the correct amount of cutlery to the dish. To our surprise there was no children’s menu in the entirety of the children’s dining area and we had to search the entire pub to find one. The table itself had been cleaned prior to our arrival, but the previous guest had left their breakfast on the floor and there were thick, white slug imprints in the carpet. The restaurant itself had a strong smell of urine, especially throughout the rear entrance and not only was the floor under our table full of leftover food, the rest of the floor throughout family dining was littered too. While the food was arguably the best part of our visit, it wasn’t great. We ordered separately for the same table, with no spaces of customers between us ordering yet there was a 10 minute wait between 1 plate being delivered to the table for anything else to come which resulted in some of our group eating cold food. A medium rare steak was ordered but arrived medium well. Halloumi fries over cooked and brown lettuce on adult burger & the children’s burger slightly overcooked. Staff ignored my two year old son when he happily waved and said hello to them, there was no ask as to whether the food was ok, or if we had everything we needed which I could understand if it was a busy service, which it wasn’t. I’ve been to Sycamore Farm plenty of times and never have I had issues in the slightest, the atmosphere was always great and the food great too. I’m not too sure what the difference was today, but it was enough to make me not want to return, especially for a family gathering or celebrations.

If you’re lucky enough to be served by Lauren, you’re in for a treat. She’s not just a bar maid—she’s the beating heart of the place. The second you walk in, her warm smile makes you feel like a regular, even if it’s your first visit. Lauren has that rare knack for remembering exactly what you drink (and how you like it) before you even have to ask. She works with speed, precision, and a dash of flair that makes ordering a pint feel like watching a performance. The drinks are always spot-on, but what really sets her apart is the atmosphere she creates—friendly banter, quick wit, and the kind of hospitality that makes you want to stay for “just one more.” She’s got the patience of a saint, the memory of an elephant, and the energy of someone running on equal parts coffee and pure joy. Whether it’s a packed Saturday night or a quiet midweek pint, Lauren keeps everything running smoothly without ever losing her cool. If there were an award for “Bar Maid of the Century,” Lauren would win it—hands down.
