Always loved visiting the lamppost as the food is great however today I went with some visiting family (4 of us) to show them around the area and have a walk so we called for some late lunch knowing the cafe shuts at 4pm we went first to the cafe to give plenty of time before closing time but arriving at 2.45pm we were told there is no more food service only cakes and drinks. We asked if we could just have a cold sandwich even if no hot food available and it was a no sorry the kitchen is closed. Very disappointed as we were all really hungry after a full day out n about and we all appreciated that with just an hour and quarter before closing that no hot food was available but not even able to buy a sandwich before 3pm and it was over an hour until closing? It was the first visit with family but I was really disappointed that the service wasn’t very helpful and they were sweeping up at 3pm. I think at 2:45pm if you have OVER a full hour until closing it wasn’t a big ask and you should write it on your menu when food service stops or state that on the website. Hate giving any kind of negative reviews as we normally love this place but the service was not its usual standard so I hope you take this as helpful feedback.

Reply: Hi Mark thank you for the reply it was yesterday Wednesday afternoon 19th June and we arrived about 3.47 as we literally just missed the deadline. But before we went to sit down we weren’t told we had missed the food service. We asked to sit outside at the back as it was actually sunny! And we had our little dog with us. It was a lady ( not one of the youngsters) who served us, my sister in law commented she was a little direct and we asked if maybe we could just have a sandwich but it was a straight no sorry they’ve stopped the food now just cakes available and drinks! So we ordered a few drinks and my sister in law then actually shared a cake with my brother as we were a little reluctant to spend on cakes each after that. We just felt it a little bit daft that they had potentially turned down about £40 of our money via drinks and a sandwich x 4) at only a few minutes past your cut off point. It just felt rather inflexible and we had been out a while so we were all really hungry. I do appreciate what your comments were regarding the clean up. The cafe was virtually empty when we walked in with only about five people in total inside. It was extremely quiet for mid afternoon. I hope this assists you. As I said previously we normally love coming in as you make lovely food and it’s so dog friendly but it was a shame this marred it when it was the first time we had been with our family and had sung your praises previously. However thank you for addressing our comments - we...

I visited this cafe today with my 6 month baby, 2 year old my friend and her 2 year old. We picked this cafe as it looks so nice and it’s her birthday. When we arrived we were very relieved to see it wasn’t very busy at all as my little baby is in a pram. I often visit cafes in parks and I am well aware in busy times it can be very hard to accommodate a pram and I would never expect anyone else to be uncomfortable because of my pram so if a small cafe is busy I would not try and take my pram in. However I was very surprised to be told in quite an abrupt way by the lady serving us that if we wanted to sit inside my pram would have to be left outside as there was no room. But there was hardly any people inside. And my baby is only very small she can’t sit in a high chair so we had no choice but to sit outside.

Then I requested cheese on toast for my little boy. I am aware there could be health and safety issues RE using the grill and I also know sometimes it’s cheese spread rather than actual cheese but all I asked for was a piece of toast and some of the cheese on the side and this request was again quite abruptly refused. I wasn’t really given any explanation as to why toast with some cheese spread could not be given.

I understand there maybe rules and regulations as a customer I am not aware of but I think being curteous and polite and also giving an explanation is very important to help people understand and feel welcomed. I personally felt as though because I had a baby in a pram I wasn’t welcome in your cafe. And I feel even worse reading positive reviews from other mums who were welcomed with their babies as I wonder why I wasn’t treated the same.

*RESPONSE TO MARK THE OWNER *

Hello Mark. My pram was not a double buggy - it was a single. There was plenty of room for a single buggy. I have two children but only one is a baby.

I did initially ask for cheese on toast. However when this was declined I asked for a single piece of toast (not a toasted sandwich) with some cheese on the side. I made this very very clear as I understand r there may have been issues with using the grill.

Beans on toast is on your children’s menu so I assume it is possible to use the toasters at lunch time to make a piece of toast?

Perhaps instead making excuses you should accept when something has gone wrong and apologise and ensure it doesn’t...

Lovely cafe in amazing surroundings! Dog friendly and provide dog water and biscuits. Toilets clean, tidy and well equipped. The cafe itself is only small and a little cramped. It was almost full when we arrived and once we were seated the people sat in the corner had to squeeze between my son and the person sat at the table at the side of us. Several times during our meal people were having to squeeze between my son and another diner. Not pleasant for either of them. Drinks were delivered some time before our food. We ordered a pot of tea for two and it arrived with a very small jug of milk. We had to ask a few times for more milk. I ordered a tuna melt panini that was served with 'salad' (consisted of a few leaves and some red onion) but when the waitress served it she only gave me a knife - no fork. Had to ask her for a fork. When food is brought to table the waiter/ess then asks if you would like sauce. Our waitress ended up going back and forth several times before we could start to eat. Mayonnaise was served in a tiny pot, (could have used at least 2) brown sauce was a squeezy bottle. Service was disorganised. The food itself was very nice but not the cheapest. When we had finished eating my son was returing our plates, cups etc as we always do when we eat out and a waiter said to him a little abruptly "you can...

Had a coffee in here before a business meeting in July 2019. Was greeted with a very warm welcome from staff as I walked in, and even though the place was very busy it appeared clean and tidy. Also nice to see a lot of dogs, and clearly a focus on making them welcome. I ordered a large latte, which was brought over to me promptly and served with a big smile (although no little biscuit – which is always a shame!). It was a very nice coffee – smooth and full of flavour. I would definitely recommend, and would certainly call in again when I’m next in the area.

Visited twice today, had a lovely hot chocolate and hubby had a cappuccino this morning and sat outside. We then went back for lunch and I had a really tasty soup, nice and hot too! Hubby had the Italian ciabatta, both were really nice. If I had to pick a fault I would just say a bigger portion of bread would be a good idea as you get a really big portion of soup! We sat inside with our dog, service was really good, lovely polite staff and a nice atmosphere. We might even go for breakfast tomorrow.
