If it is a positive review that mentions the name of the staff, it's highly likely a fake review, probably because that specific staff asked them to do so, in exchange of favors. I know this because I know people and businesses who do this. Some even ask reviews from people who have never stepped foot in their store/restaurant/cafe.
Go to this establishment's review on TripAdvisor, it is all about a staff called "Maisie" or "Nick", I wonder what incentives this Maisie has promised these people.
We only went to this place because Toby Carvery Crompton Way was fully booked.
The place looks miserable. The staff is miserable, like they didn't want to be there. The guy behind the counter looks like he discovered his wife was cheating on him the day before.
As much as I want to be considerate of whatever people are going through, a lot of people in hospitality go through a lot of things in life but they don't take it out on their customers, it is unprofessional and pathetic, to be honest.
We went on a bright sunny weekend, you would think they will be in a good mood at least. I asked one of the staff a question, but he just started walking away, like he's afraid of people.
The food was typical carvery food, but service was appalling.
One of my friend ordered the salad, and waited for it, and has not arrived in nearly an hour. When she asked what happened, apparently the salad was unavailable, but they did not even tell us.
There were many issues with the billing, that was settled eventually, but what I did not like the most if this rude staff behind the bar counter (nameplate says Kurt) who chucked the pen to my friend. The friend of mine tolerates everything, but I don't. I was shocked. It was very disparaging.
Or maybe he is just a miserable person, then if that's the case then I suggest he work at a farm, do something else, find a job where you don't have to deal with people and will probably treat animals better.
If you want to have a nice time with your family, don't go...

Rely impressed with the new upgrades to the building!! Has transformed what was slightly run down building into something more modern. Ref food, the breakfasts have improved with additional items now being served, But the carvery has now become ropey now instead - become vwry hit an miss!. The meat quialty has gone down - had take our plate back other day, three slices grizzle.. yum!! The staff are terribly overrun as well.. never seems enough on at peak times an to many during the grave yard shift.
Be warmed also, ya need book if ya going with family unless ya dont mind a good wait!! This place is crazy crazy busy these days since the new online offer of a carvery for £6 on select night!!
Ya Can't beat a Toby Carvery!! An been plenty time..
Got to be a northen tradition these days go for Toby!!
Whether it's nursing, a hangover, filling ya boot on the breakfast buffet, knocking back rasher of bacon 🥓 that are terribly sinful but heavenly tasty. Too going for a classic Sunday Roast with ya gran.
Ya rely can rely on a Toby for its consistency an satisfy hunger!! 😌.. Stand with what I've previously posted really can't beat a Toby Carvery 'BUT' I have to say that the breakfasts are starting to get rather ropey over the last few months.
Items aren't being replenished as fast as previously an sometime not at all.!! Been several time recently with a good 1hr left before the change over to lunch, an there's been no eggs, balck pudding, hash browns, browm sauce even bread an butter this weekend, Or can be a mixture of items missing!!
Spoke with Manager an he didn't feel the need to top up or replace. 🤷♂️!!! If I'm paying full price, I want a complete breakfast spread, not the dregs of what's left.!!!
Another Gripe is the salt & pepper shakers are months old and stail.!! Damp, clogged and beaten up.!! ( rely needs be stored better / refreshed more frequently ). Trivial, I know, but it's all in the...
Read moreYou can improve on everything. The customer service and attitude of of both staff and management. The offering on the carvery was disgraceful - the beef and the pork looked they had been there for hours and looked dry as a bone. When we first arrived we were seated in a cold a drafty part of the restaurant. I asked if we could could move and the staff member said she would find a heater. As this wouldn’t stop drafts I asked if we could move again as the restaurant on had a few tables being used (I now know why!) and eventually we moved to a warmer table. After we had moved we were about to go to the carvery when we saw the meat offering. We asked if anymore meats were going to be added and the waitress said no. After a little while after complaining I saw someone listening to the comments. I asked if he was the manager and he said ‘Yes’ I would expect a manager to take control of the situation and not leave a waitress in this situation when he was fully aware of the situation. In short he said we were too late at 1930 for the carvery and you get what’s left. I asked him if he would eat the beef and he said no…..I think says enough if the manager wouldn’t eat the food on offer to paying customers. The manager Charlie Walker offered to us not to pay for the food but we had to do at for the drinks - we really wanted to leave and go somewhere where we could get some food. We did pay for the drinks but left hungry and looking for a table of 10 . I personally feel the whole night was wrecked by the offerings on the carvery and the fact that we were too late! Surely when we booked we should have been made aware that the meat would...
