We went in today after it being highly recommended by friends and family, and one of our party had already had a great experience in here a few weeks ago.
We had to wait for 20 minutes for our drinks to arrive, after the food. There was a young guy doing the coffee machine but seemed way out of his depth - we had to wait that long for cups of tea and cans of coke which shouldn’t take that long - especially considering there were only a few other people in the venue.
There weren’t a lot of cakes out but staff explained they’d been really busy today - which I totally get. I enquired about allergen information as I have a severe allergy to peas, beans and nuts. They were able to tell me that 1 of the options was vegan (a carrot cake) but all 3 were nut free. I ordered the sticky toffee cake but when I tried it it seemed really dry and with a weird texture - I doubted it instantly due to my allergies and thought it was best to send it back.
At the end when I went to pay I asked for it to be removed as it was dry, the lady explained the sticky toffee cake was vegan so is usually quite dry. I do get her point (although I don’t think it’s an excuse for dry cake!!), but I mentioned that I was actually told the carrot cake was vegan. If I knew it was vegan, I wouldn’t have ordered it due to my allergies (a lot of vegan substitutes include pea, bean and other legumes which cause me to go anaphylactic shock). I asked twice for it to be removed from the bill and after she exchanged a few awkward glances with the guy on the coffee machine, she did remove it from the bill. The whole exchange seemed a bit frosty, which is a shame considering your menu does mention staff making every effort to deal with allergies appropriately.
On the way out we said thankyou and bye, and the same lady totally ignored us. Overall the customer service wasn’t great - and the food safety standards especially around allergens seem worrying and lapse. The food options on the menu are great though, as is the decor and atmosphere. I really hope you can train your staff up or get more staff in who seem more confident and efficient - it really would make the...
Read moreArrived for brunch and sat outside our drinks order was taken right away. It was busy and there were plenty of staff around. I had to ask someone to come take our food order after about 15 minutes. There was a photographer wandering round taking photos presumably material for social media, despite him we saw 2 or 3 other members of staff with their phones out all arranging various drinks/dishes to take photos for the same purpose. We ordered relatively basic food (pancakes and French toast) which took almost an hour to come. When it did arrive no cutlery was brought with it, so I had to go in and ask and then wait for them to be wrapped in napkins which I ended up just saying they don't need wrapping we're literally about to use them. All the staff seemed to be flapping at this point. The food was nice and we all enjoyed it. Not long after we'd arrived an old man arrived, received his drink and was waiting for his food order to be taken the whole time we were there. As we were leaving one of the staff said "there's no order cos he hasn't given us one" as if to blame him for their poor customer service. We ordered bakes to take home which were almost £15 extra on top of the bill and the slices of cake that we got were disappointingly small. The food was nice but the experience as a whole left a bit to be desired, especially being asked to leave a review (ick). You should be focusing more on your real life customer presence than your social...
Read moreWas rushed to order, however we understood as we were told there would be a long wait. Asked for children's breakfast from the kids section. Staff took order then came back and said it couldn't be done as breakfast was over. Requested children's meals to come out ASAP, (simple beans on toast) however they were the last meals to come to the table after we waited over an hour. Coincidentally a friend of mine was on a table across the restaurant and waited over 2 hours for their meal. Did not complain re. above, understand that this is a new venue with new staff however no apologies given for delays/general service. Tried paying partly with Scottish notes (from a scottish relative who had driven down today for this meal) but staff stated this was against restaurant policy. Spoke to manager, refused to accept as they had previously been given fake £50 notes. Our notes were £10 and £20. Likely that english £50 notes could be fake too however all of these were accepted. Staff very sarcastically shouted from kitchen "goodbye, have a nice day!" following our complaint as we were leaving (large table of 9, paying their wages with our visit....) lots of other diners noticed this also. Food was also nothing to write home about. Lack of acknowledgement of poor service and disgusting attitude of staff most disappointing. We are very local and will not be revisiting. Heard numerous complaints from...
