The Ivy House Inn — Restaurant in Calderdale

The Pub is really nice, the drink quality was very good, and the bar/food service was very good/excellent. The food itself for me was fantastic Tandoori Chicken Skewers were cooked really well, the taste and presentation of my meal was fantastic the taste of the sprinkled paprika on the fries were excellent, salad excellent, yoghurt sauce excellent. only two minor niggles of this dish Sala Sauce I personally thought was not nice (usually my fav) put to one side as was spoiling the dish, the thickness of the naan too much, 2 small naans, or one thinner one preferred, but the Naan served was lovelly. The dish was excellent value for money.... I just want to point out that the two minor niggles are minor issues, one of the best pub meals I have ever had in a long time of this type. I would still give an overall rating of 4.8 out of 5.... I have still voted 5 stars in my review as next time I come I do hope the polite feedback of this dish is taken on board and again would reorder the same dish as everyone on our table commented on my dish and how fabulously it looked.... You cannot get a better compliment than everyone asking to try and saying it tasted lovely.

Not going to rush back.

Cauliflower and broccoli in the carvery were very overcooked and mushy. As was the "white" cabbage. The meat was tasty but well done and the only other veg were Roast potatoes and mashed potatoes, boiled carrots and mashed carrots and peas so no sprouts, corn, beans, kale, leeks, spring greens that could have been an alternative.

As there were 6 of us we were put upstairs. No lighting or condiments. We had two disabled people who struggle with walking (but can manage stairs), which was a good job as when we inquired about a different table, we were advised we could eat upstairs or outside. Unfortunately outside was not an option due to the seating being inappropriate for one of our diners. Sitting upstairs meant we had to walk through the bar area to the carvery and back through the bar area and upstairs. All the time walking past 2 empty tables that could quite easily have been used by our party.

Visited for a meal with friends. Tried to phone to book but nobody answered the phone. We went there on the off chance and they found us a table. 2 Ordered Steak pie, veg and chips. Pie was excellent, veg ok, chips had an oily aftertaste, they left them. 2 Ordered carvery, generous portions of turkey, gammon and beef. Veg ok, turkey a bit dry, the ham and beef was delicious. About 7pm they turned the music vol up so loud that we couldn't hear ourselves talk. No body came back to ask us whether we'd like dessert, Shame because waitress was very polite and efficient taking our initial order. This pub was rated in top 3 for carvery in Halifax.
