If you're looking for a dining experience that embodies the warmth of traditional British cuisine, The Auctioneer in Carlisle is a must-visit. From the moment you step inside, you're greeted by a welcoming atmosphere that feels like a home away from home. The food here is nothing short of exceptional, offering generous portions that are as satisfying as they are delicious.
One of the highlights has to be their Friday night carvery—an absolute treat for anyone who appreciates perfectly cooked meats and all the trimmings. The quality of the food is consistently outstanding, with every dish prepared to perfection. It's clear that the chefs at The Auctioneer take pride in delivering a true taste of comfort.
But don’t just take my word for it—this place is popular for a reason. Booking is highly recommended as they often fill up fast, especially on weekends. And while the mains are spectacular, do yourself a favor and save room for dessert. Their puddings are simply divine, the kind that leaves you thinking about them long after your meal is over. If you can't finish it all, don’t worry—they're more than happy to box it up for you to enjoy later.
In short, The Auctioneer is a gem of a restaurant, perfect for a cozy meal with friends or family. The combination of amazing food, friendly service, and great value makes it one of my absolute favorite places to eat in Carlisle.

Read moreWanted proper food on Bank Holiday Monday; went to Toby Carvery but was fully booked. The waiter in TC actually suggested Pioneer (The Auctioneer is owned by Pioneer) - my partner has been here before for functions and said food was good so off we went. In the middle of industrial estate but looks quite posh from outside. Inside is just like a pub - a long bar with drinks served at one end and food at other. Big open seating area, choose where you like. Order food at bar and it's brought to your table. We had the roast beef and dessert special. 4 or 5 thick slices with gravy, no fat which impressed me as I hate cutting it out of the meat, scoop of mash potato (not watery or runny), garden peas, carrots and cabbage on the plate. Extra dish with roasties and a Yorkshire pudding each. Everything tasted really good - like, you could taste the flavour of each individual food item. Really scrummy! For dessert we had the white chocolate/milk chocolate torte. He had his with pouring cream. Very sweet but very nice 😁. Staff were excellent, very polite and helpful and friendly - even giving my fella extra dessert with the torte, must have thought he needed feeding up 😂 Overall, an excellent meal,...
Read moreFood and atmosphere was great. However, my mother (who has a disability) was approaching the bathroom as child was sick in between the 2 doorways into the facilities. When my mum stuck her head around the corner to ask for help and for someone to hold the door, the 2 waitresses standing just down from the doorway looked at each other and one walked away. The other stayed stood where she was.
A couple of minutes go by and my mother stuck her head out of the door again and shouted me from the doorway to come and help because the girl who was STILL stood there who had been joined by another waitress had not. I rushed over to her as she was desperate for the toilet by this point.
A few more minutes go by and the other girl my mum had asked for help stuck her head in seeing the situation had still not been resolved, left again and I was still stood holding the door.
The grandmother of the child cleaned up the sick and as she finished the manager came in and handled the situation. Overall about a 10 minute s* show. That the “staff” new about but the customers dealt with.
