I have been a visitor to this pub, many times over many years. I'm not sure if it's under new management, most of it's staff have walked out or it's just generally gone way down hill. We booked a table for 5 at 8pm for my Dad's Birthday. We arrived around 7.50pm and although the car park was very busy, the pub seemed quite empty. There was no one in the bar and 1 other couple in our seating area. We we're served drinks in a timely fashion and order taken for food but then it went rapidly down hill. After just over an hour from ordering, we were asked if we wanted any more drink, i asked if we were likely to get any food. Within 5 minutes he was rushing to the table with what looked like very hurriedly plated starters. Our pate had no caramelised red onion chutney and the rustic toasted bread was thinly sliced ciabatta bread. The baked scallop & king prawn had 3 prawns (nothing king about them) and 2 scallops that were very over cooked and at the price of £12.25, it was disgraceful. As they'd run out of chutney, they offered to change my starter for the creamy oven baked garlic mushrooms. At this point, it had gone from bad to worse! The mushrooms were barley covered in any sauce and there was something placed on the top which resembled and had the texture of dirt. There was no improvement with the mains. 3 of the meals 1 x signature burger and 2 x grilled bacon chop were served with those awful skin on french fries which were actually cold. The onion rings were cold and snapped. The bacon chops consisted of a slither of gammon, with excessive rind and i think by the size, they used quail eggs. The place also seemed to have a layer or grease on it. The pie was terribly dry and over cooked and we had to ask for the gravy, which had been left off. All in all, this has to be the worst meal i have had in years. I've been served far better food in Wetherspoons for a fraction of the cost. I have no problem paying exceptional prices for exceptional food but what we were offered was far below the standard i would expect, for the prices you charge. You let yourself down on service, presentation and quality and although you too off the cost of the starters from the bill and gave us a half heated excuse for such poor service, i don't think any of us would ever use the pub again! 5 very unhappy customers and a ruined...
Read moreFriends over from Ireland, and decided to take them to our favourite Sunday lunch destination. Unfortunately, the experience was upsetting and embarrassing. After being told when we arrived, and were shown to our table, at 2pm, that there would be a 45-minute wait for food (due to staff shortages), at which we enquired, would it be any longer, the reply was, 'no, I hope not, we are already getting on top of the backlog.' We decided that we could manage 45 mins, after an hour and 15 mins and some garlic bread and hummus (which we had been assured if we ordered it, it would not push our main orders back down the queue) we asked if it would be possible to get some lemonade and lime drinks, 3 in total, refilled ‘on the house’, as it was a very hot day and we had finished our drinks while waiting for our still non-existent meals. This was when the whole experience changed, the waitress with bright pink hair (did not get her name), took on a very combative attitude and looked horrified that we had even asked for such a gesture and started raising her voice at us from the other table at which she was serving. It culminated with her saying she would get her manager. After a further number of minutes and more aggressive attitude, in which she decided to blame us for ‘getting at and being rude to her’ (If the restaurant has CCTV they will see that our behaviour remained perfectly reasonable) the manager never appeared. At this point a waiter who was not the manager but was her senior stepped in. They straight away offered the drinks (not a problem) and de-escalated the situation in a professional manner and apologised for the behaviour of his staff member. Unfortunately, after the earlier treatment our party no longer wanted to stay and eat at The Badgers Sett. A very disappointing experience, from somewhere we previously recommend highly to friends...
Read moreVery disappointed with the Badgers Sett. The setting is great, the staff are friendly enough however that is the only positives I'm afraid. The service is very slow. Time taken from orders being placed to food being served is extremely slow. Expect to be waiting a while between courses. (This was at a non busy time when we visited!) The worst part was the mains. I ordered fish and chips and at almost £18 I was expecting a generous portion. What turned up was a fried 'Gold Fish' at about 6 inches long with x13 chips (yes, I counted them, x13!!!!) Extremely poor value for money and a joke to be honest. The next joke was the dessert. I ordered the cheese board. 10-15 mins later the waitress came back and told me they didnt have any cheese board available! (Why was this not communicated at time of ordering?) As a result I didn't have a pudding (I'm not big on 'sweets') and the main was barely a child's portion. I therefore left very disappointed and still hungry. The biggest shocker was the bill. Value for money and portion sizes at this pub is poor. I have no problem paying good money for good food and appropriate portion sizes. Badgers Sett does not offer this I'm afraid. On a final note the amount of Pot-Holes in the car park needs sorting ASAP. May I suggest fixing them rather than spray painting yellow circles round them? Poor show overall and I'd give 2 out of 10. I do not recommend this pub and won't be...
