The Britannia: A Pub to Remember We recently enjoyed a delightful family meal at the Britannia pub, and it was an experience we won't soon forget. The pub itself has a warm and inviting atmosphere that immediately put us at ease. The food was truly exceptional. We sampled a variety of dishes, and each one was cooked to perfection. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and the portions were generous. A particular standout was the succulent steak & ale pie To accompany the delicious food, the selection of beers was impressive. There was something for everyone, from classic ales to craft brews. The service was equally commendable. The staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and efficient, ensuring that our dining experience was smooth and enjoyable. They went above and beyond to accommodate our family's needs, making us feel truly welcome. Overall, our meal at the Britannia was a resounding success. The combination of excellent food, a fantastic selection of beers, and friendly service created a truly memorable experience. We highly recommend the Britannia to anyone looking for a warm and welcoming pub with delicious food.

We had a table booked for 10 people my mum’s 70th birthday, so no easy job. The welcome was wonderful, the pub and restaurant have kept its original features which I think really add to the cozy atmosphere. The staff were very welcoming and friendly, even the owner took the time to chat to us and it felt like a five star experience and we were very well looked after. Food was brought out promptly and lovely and hot. And absolutely beautifully presented, with very generous portion sizes, including the children’s menu! I had the Britannia burger (delicious!) and we also had fish and chips, pork belly (photo included - the portion was massive and lovely and crisp!) and scampi and chips. I wish we’d taken more pictures but we just tucked in! We were even watching the dishes going to other tables and working out what we wound have the next time we visit (the steaks look amazing!). The portions were fantastic, even the puddings were wonderfully laid out, and huge! We were sharing at one point!

Visited last night for the first time ever. The restaurant was very warm and inviting, was seated promptly, service was good and was well taken care of. Food was delicious , lovely and fresh. Chicken was juicy and well flavoured along with the mash and vegetables! Wine was a good quality at a very reasonable price. The only slight criticism I can give and this is in no reflection at all on the food or service. We ordered a sticky toffee pudding in which was very nice and the cream served with it was lovely…… but it wasn’t really a traditional sticky toffee pudding, it was far too sweet and lacked the date flavour a sticky toffee has, more along the lines of a syrup sponge perhaps. Again it was nice just not what I would expect from a sticky toffee. Overall it was a really good experience, one I will be telling everyone about and very eager to go back to explore the menu and obviously try the curry! Will be returning 😊

Having been a regular at the Britannia for some time we were quite sad to hear it was being taken over but hopeful things wouldn’t change too much as we’ve always loved in particular the loaded nachos & pizza - they were the best around! However, unfortunately sad to say we won’t be back. Visited 4 times under the new owners, was promising at first but sadly got worse with each visit - first visit was for Sunday lunch which I must say was an improvement on the previous Sunday lunch so we was hopeful the rest of the menu was just as good! The second visit I had lunch with my mum - which was a lovely goats cheese pasta on the light bite menu they had introduced - again was impressed! 3rd visit however was extremely poor - I went for the pie which was tasteless - not homemade, chips weren’t great & gravy really thin/tasteless. We then said let’s give it another chance and try our usual - the nachos/pizza - sadly these just were no where near as good as they use to be. Loaded nachos were very plain and poor - not enough cheese, salsa, guacamole or sour cream like they use to be. Pizzas were not the lovely soft fresh dough they use to be either & sad they’ve taken the duck hoisin pizza off the menu too! Whilst these two meals were poor, I had really enjoyed the pasta on the light bite lunch menu so returned last week to have this again to find out they’ve now scrapped the light lunch menu and taken the pasta off the menu completely! We ended up ordering a Greek salad & burrito. Greek salad consisted of a few leaves, olives & feta - it honestly was one of the poorest salads I’ve ever seen & for the price quite shocking! My burrito was ok but not overly warm & couldn’t understand the random nachos on the side either. Overall really disappointed! Really hope the new owners can take this feedback on...

We booked for 7pm and the menu was given at 7.15. We were told six items on the menu were not available. We got our starters at 8.00, which were all so salty. We then waited ages and watched as two tables that arrived after us, were served their mains. We didn't get served our mains until 9:00. After waiting two hours for food, the chips were cold, and a lot of them were hard in the middle. Three of us ordered fajitas, the fajita that came was build your own, there was no salad and almost no meat (just onion and peppers) and it was more of a casserole. None of us ate many of the chips and the fajitas weren't really touched. When they came to ask how the food was, we told them this and were advised they'd take the drinks off the bill. We had already paid over ÂŁ50 in drinks at the bar, there were only 2 drinks on the bill. When she brought the bill over, the drinks were still on it. We complained again and said that we weren't happy to pay for the fajitas, we waited 2 hours and it was awful. She refused to take any of the fajitas off because the last time she did that she got 'bollucked', so not sure if this is a regular occurance. They took the two drinks and the onion rings off the bill, removing ÂŁ14 total and that was it. We asked for a refund on the drinks we had already paid for and she said she doesnt know how to do a refund. They offered a voucher it was laughable. Disgusted, we almost walked out of the pub waiting for the food, and was definitely not worth the wait. We will never be returning and will be advising other people not to go either. It's a shame because we used to go to this pub quite often and it...
