Good points - ample parking, welcoming atmosphere - large fire, bar staff attentive, clean. Could do better - time taken for food to arrive…. First time here. Arrived as a group of 3 at 7.15pm. Table booked was still being used so we were moved to a table near the fire which was a bonus. Cruzcampo on tap, went down well. Ordered 2 starters - crispy began (aubergine) - bit meh and crispy bhajia - much better. Also ordered from the curry club menu, where you get a curry, rice , poppadoms, plain naan and salad for £12. I ordered the lamb kofta curry, my friends both ordered the Kenyan style (machoosi) egg curry. We were asked if we wanted it all to come together or starters first then mains. We chose to get starters first, big mistake. The starters came within 20 /25 mins but the mains took another hour + to arrive. We did ask where the food was and was told there was a 45 min wait for food! I don’t know if it was a tactic to get you to drink more but it was annoying. The warm plates they brought out after the starters went stone cold by the time the food arrived. Food itself was ok, I’ve personally had better but maybe ordering a la carte may have been better? Don’t get me wrong the food is not bad but I had high expectations as heard / seen positive reviews. All in all I would come again but wasn’t that impressed. Maybe just one of those days. Ps If you’re expecting to pay for your food and drinks together at the end, that isn’t an option, you will have to pay for your drinks and food separately.

Seating: (on the benches) uncomfortable and sub standard. Fine for a drink, but not for food - you're practically lying down and far from the table to eat. Service: There were plenty of staff but waited 15 minutes before someone realised we'd finished starters. Then another waitress asked if we wanted to order mains when we already had. Food: decent and up to the standards of other Leicester gastro pubs. Drinks: expect to get served by some old guy with a cap and beard. Looks like a punter, doesn't even use a tray, instead gives your drinks one at a time. Most peculiar. Labels still on the steel cups for water. Atmosphere: I'm not sure what the 90s R'n'B tunes blaring out are all about, but otherwise, it was good. Lively, but you can talk ok without shouting too much. Parking: insufficient in the car park when I went (thur) but there's lots on the streets nearby. Would come again, but it won't be for a while. Look forward to seeing improvements with service in time or shall just revert to my usual decent places - Durham ox, wyvern, marten inn, etc.

Ordered a takeaway on uber. Sad to say the reccomendations i got did not live up to the expectation. Got the paneer saag which a huge disappointment. An onion gravy eith undercooked stringy spinach. Have a very unpleasant texture. Flavour was not bad but not the taste saag should have. The lamb biriyani was the biggest disappointed. Rice was cooked well, but not very flavourful. Mainly just cardammom and star-enise. The lamb was terrible. Massively overcooked and had a very dry and grainy texture. Was so unpleasant i barely touched it. Sadly went to waste Might try other dishes from here but do not have high hopes with the quality of the dishes i recieved.

I used to love coming here, as did many for Sunday lunch a beautiful carvery that people far and wide packed every Sunday. The food always well cooked very reasonably priced, hence up until recent customer satisfaction, and it was presented well too, and won best pub fish and chip rating too. However it has since changed hands twice and has drastically changed. Up until recently you'd wait ages to be served as the one bar staff was busy bringing meals from the kitchen waiting on diners during peak times when more staff was surely needed. Our Christmas meal they knew 25 were coming but ran out of wine and some waited a while but the meal was fantastic netherltheless Now a new owner has took it over and stopped the carvery, which people travelled far and wide to come to, so much so it was always fully booked At £8.45 it was delicious and great choice of meat and vegetables. The choice now is a set meal with a choice of meats including tandoori chicken. This is not what the payimg regulars will want, as people can no longer choose and are now being charged £3.50+ which with today's economic client and wages many of the customers I mentioned won't be able to afford sadly. As one has commented recently it is the death of this once lovely pub. Also on the Facebook page people have spoke up about it, hope it isn't the case as it has some lovely clientèle, and the new owner listens to his customers, after all they are his bread and butter surely???? I get with new owners they'll introduce new menu items and thankfully live music which had become hit and miss recently is back. I'm hoping it's just teetbhing troubles. As the saying goes if it ain't broke...

Menu is misleading they don’t do a carvery

Me and my family always used to come here for Sunday carvery they’re now under new management wanted to try the new carvery advertised so booked in advance to be told on Friday night that they have to cancel my booking as “not starting the carvery until next week now”. I think you need to inform your staff there is a big difference between what you’re offering and a carvery, or you’ll have many disappointed customers and lots more of these reviews. I seen from their Facebook page that carvery is being replaced with a “traditional Sunday roast” for £11.45, which is nearly £2 more than the carvery was for a measly looking portion. This was enough to make me wary but the response from the management on this post was so unprofessional and solidified to me and lots of others I’ve spoken to that we will not be coming here again. Telling people they are keyboard warriors and to unfollow you because they’re showing disappointment in you changing the most popular thing in this pub is absurd, you should have expected this especially when you were advertising and still are that you would be continuing the carvery. With this attitude I wish you luck whilst it lasts, management and...
