Would not recommend! There was a group of 10 of us on a Saturday at 6:30pm (we booked a table prior). We waited over an hour for our food (we all only had mains except one starter we asked to be brought with the mains). When the food came they forgot one of the dishes (vegetable korma) and the starter so we had to ask for them. The portions of Pilau rice were tiny- we got 2 between 3 as they recommended and one was barely enough for one person! The person having the veg korma said it was mostly sauce and there were barely any vegetables. She asked for another one with more vegetables and when the server brought it out he spilled it down the back of one of the girls all over her denim jacket and denim tote bag (the tote bag was not noticed until leaving). She asked for the jacket to be cleaned off and they came back with it just sopping wet, as she had to walk home with the jacket she asked if they could dry it. We had to ask 3 times for them to clean it and the same for drying as the staff kept just saying they'd be back then never did. We were also told "what do you expect us to do?" when asked to try dry it. We asked for the bill and had to ask 3 times again, this took over 1 hour and a quarter to get. As we were leaving we noticed the korma on the tote bag so asked for them to clean it/wipe it to be told "we don't have anything to wipe it with" even though we had literally just been given hot towel/wipes at the end of the meal they could have used. All the staff just seemed unwilling to help, slow and useless. They informed us they were understaffed but they should be turning people away if this is the case. We left at 9pm due to all this as we were planning to be gone by 8pm and some of our lifts were waiting for 45+ minutes as we kept getting delayed. I also asked for a Naan to takeaway about 45 minutes before we left and it wasn't on the bill, it never came and I didn't even realise until I'd already left because of everything going on. Wouldn't recommend and would not go back. Food was okay, nothing to...
Read moreDespite is "funky" name and decor this is one of the worst places I have eaten. Banbury is not noted for its culinary versatility so it is not difficult to go for a curry. This is not the first time I had been there but mostly choose their take away menu as at least that's as near to a curry you will get in this town. We were the first people to arrive and we were greeted with an outstanding lack of enthusiasm and shown to a table. We were gruffly asked if we wanted a drink whilst we looked at the menu. Quite clearly the plastic conscience has not reached the management as we were given plastic straws with our gnt. We mentioned this to waiter One who blanked us. Waiter Two took our order with the same level of enthusiasm.
Indian food is usually the choice of vegetarians as it is a wholesome meal but a VJs be prepared for tinned chickpeas with boiled potatoes in a "sauce". pilaw rice with no flavour and a boring paneer and spinach "thing". By now the room was filling up so Waiter Three took over. Removed our dishes and disappeared. We waited to be asked if we wanted another drink, a pudding or a coffee but waiters One Two and Three were overwhelmed by four tables. Waiter Two did offer us a hot wet towel. However waiter Three asked the man at the next table if he would like another drink. I guess by this stage my friend and I became invisible. After 20 mins of invisibility we asked for our bill. This caused further problems as their card machine could not deal with the card. After several attempts and no apology the bill got paid. We left feeling this is not a place where two women dining are appreciated for their custom Funky or not VJ s needs a lesson or two in value of customer, retraining their chef ...oh yes and then there's the...
Read moreI've heard rave reviews about Voujon and finally had the opportunity to go there last weekend. Unfortunately, it didn't live up to it's reputation and I have to agree with a couple of the other less than glowing reviews on here.
The staff were friendly, but seemingly unable to count! We had a set meal for four and not one of the starters actually had four things, so there was much cutting up and sharing out - not a great start. Then we realised that the wine was not the one we'd ordered, but as we'd almost finished it, decided not to make a fuss. When we ordered another bottle, we explicitly said the one on the menu and again the wrong one arrived. The main portion sizes were woefully inadequate, looking more like a meal for two (especially the rice) and the lamb dish while it had a lovely sauce, it was a struggle to find any lamb in it. Then when we got the bill, we had five chocolates - which did make us smile, but it kind of summed up the evening.
The food was unexceptional, typical indian fare really. As one reviewer has mentioned, the Sheesh Mahal across the road is better. There's also a MUCH better one in Bodicote (about 2 miles up the road) called The Spice Room - lots of unusual chef specials and very knowledgeable staff.
So, sadly we won't be venturing back and instead will stay in Bodicote - sometimes it pays to stay safe and keep to...
